PURPOSEThe Security Guard is an important part of maintaining the safety of our sites, ensuring our company continues to operate at its best. This individual patrols and monitors work sites, buildings, yards, and/or warehouses to prevent and detect theft, property, or equipment damage.ESSENTIALDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES* Answer alarms and investigate disturbances.* Monitor and authorize entrance and departure of associates, visitors, and other persons to guard against theft and maintain security of premises.* Write reports of daily activities and irregularities, such as equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, or unusual occurrences.* Call police or fire departments in cases of emergency, such as fire or presence of unauthorized persons.* Circulate among visitors, patrons, and associates to preserve order and protect property.* Answer telephone calls to take messages, answer questions, and provide information during non-business hours or when switchboard is closed.* Warn persons of rule infractions or violations, and apprehend or evict violators from premises, using force when necessary.* Operate detecting devices to screen individuals and prevent passage of prohibited articles into restricted areas.* Escort or drive motor vehicle to transport individuals to specified locations and to provide personal protection.* Inspect and adjust security systems, equipment, and machinery to ensure operational use and to detect evidence of tampering.* Monitor and adjust controls that regulate building systems, such as air conditioning, furnace, or boiler.* Demonstrate a commitment to the quality improvement process and the philosophy of continuous improvement.* Identify and respond actively and with sensitivity to the needs of all customers.* Participate as a team player in all phases of the organization.* Open and responsive to change.* Personally provide customers with knowledgeable, courteous, and prompt service always.* Comply with all Company policies and procedures.* Adhere to the Company's safety standards and enforce safety regulations.* Other duties as assigned.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESThis job has no supervisory responsibilities.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED)At least 3 years of related experienceOr equivalent education and experienceMust be bilingual in SpanishCOMPETENCIES* Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.* Ability to write simple correspondence.* Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other associates of the organization.* Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.* Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.* May require security guard training.* May require a valid driver's license.* Knowledge of laws, legal codes, precedents, government regulations.* Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL ACTIVITYThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
