Position assignment days/hours/center sites are on an as needed basis - (Monday-Thursday from 8 AM-10 PM, Friday from 8 AM- 5 PM, Saturday from 8 AM - 5 PM).Under direction and supervision of a Brookdale Community College Police Department Supervisor and/or Administrator, patrols and monitors College grounds, buildings or designated events, and/or maintains a post at entrance to an assigned location. Acts to safeguard life and property and enforce College regulations and departmental procedures. Assists in responding to emergencies in accordance with the College's Emergency Management Procedures. Provide assistance, protection, and information to persons in a professional and cordial manner.Description of DutiesSit or stand at assigned post, maintain orderly flow of individuals leaving/entering building at any given BCC property/building, as assigned or reassigned.Observe individuals entering/departing to ensure their safe and orderly conduct. Inspect packages of a suspicious nature to prevent theft of college property or the introduction of contraband.Conduct foot patrols of grounds/buildings/designated events, checking for safety/fire hazards, unusual or suspicious circumstances, vandalism, and any activity that may be in violation of College regulations or law. Produce well-written reports on all findings. Check the condition of buildings and take steps to protect them from fire damage/theft.Give verbal warning to individuals who fail to observe college regulations or individuals acting in a disorderly and/or illegal manner. May question/confront persons as required, until the arrival of a police officer.Visually inspect and secure all doors/windows/buildings when the College opens/closes. Immediately report on any area/building that cannot be secured or that shows signs of intrusion/attempted intrusion.Monitors/operates building cameras and/or access buttons.Report any unsafe campus condition to the Facilities/Police Departments and where possible, temporarily secure the area to prevent personal injury or damage to property. Submit Incident Reports and Daily Activity Reports, as required.Will also provide testimony in court, if needed.Answer/respond to calls for assistance, including but not limited to, lost/found property, disruptive persons, persons in crisis, persons in need of first aid and other calls which require good decisions and actions to be taken.Assist in responding to campus emergencies in accordance with College Emergency Management procedures. Contact local emergency personnel as appropriate.Participate in, and help facilitate, lockdown and fire drills, in accordance with police department drill protocols.Assists the fire department and other emergency services personnel in gaining access to rooms/buildings.Tests/inspects emergency call boxes and lighting to ensure proper functioning. Reports on all irregularities. Understand and set/deactivate alarm systems, as prescribed by protocol, and make recommendations for burglar alarms and servicing of alarms.In the case of accidents, sudden illness, injury or emergency, respond to the scene and report such accidents to the appropriate local emergency personnel. Provide assistance as appropriate.Guides the flow of pedestrian/vehicular traffic when necessary, to assure safe/reasonably rapid movement of persons with a minimum of interference.Acts to ensure safety of visitors/attendees of College special events. Provide crowd control and help to maintain order.Assist the college staff/students/visitors wherever possible in a professional courteous manner. Provide general assistance to all persons on the campus, including providing information regarding campus locations, special events and campus regulations and infractions.Endeavors to create a positive image for the Police Department/College. A strong service orientation with an ability to work in a diverse, multicultural environment.Comply with all applicable rules/regulations/procedures as stipulated in the General Orders of the Police Department and the policies/ regulations of the College.Complies with all lawful orders/instructions from supervisor.Wear uniform in a neat/clean fashion, and show an acceptable level of personal grooming/appearance.Properly maintain all assigned equipment/issued uniform items.Complete regular online training and any assigned security officer training classes.Perform other related duties and specialized responsibilities as assigned, including extra hours whenever the need arises, including on very short notice.Minimum QualificationsSecurity officer certification or a combination of training/education in the field.Good verbal and written communication skillsWell-developed interpersonal skillsMust be capable of verbally diffusing/mediating emotional situationsMust pass a comprehensive background investigationAbility to operate campus communications devices and utilize technology and institutional/department software systemsMust be a U.S. CitizenMust be 18 years of age or olderMust be, or able to become, Basic First Aid trained, and AED and CPR certifiedMust be a U.S. CitizenMust be minimum of 18 years of age.Must be, or able to become, Basic First Aid trained, and AED and CPR certifiedPreferred Qualifications & Special ConsiderationsRecent experience as a security officer or NJ Police Officer is preferred. Knowledge of Monmouth County and its communities.Nature of work may require exposure to serious danger, as well as unpleasant conditions such as noise, dust, fumes, waster material, or bodily fluids.Must be in good physical condition, able to climb ladders to roof tops/attics, reach, crouch, crawl, stoop, jump, reach above head, carry items, grasp and hold and run a reasonable distance without difficulty, and lift, push or pull a person weighing a minimum of 125 lbs. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust vision with corrective measures. Hearing shall be sufficient to accomplish the job duties described.Must be able to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods.
