Position SummaryThis position is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the organization's activity and property in an active, respectful, and confidential manner. This is accomplished by conducting regular patrols, monitoring both interior and exterior property, common areas, and enforcing policies. In addition, this position must have sound judgment in making decisions and understanding the impact on themselves, clients, employees, and the organization.Duties and Responsibilities:* Patrols campus interior and exterior locations, including vacant properties, parking lots, and ensuring no unusual or suspicious circumstances.* Communicates and cooperates with local authorities and first responders in emergency situations as needed.* Observes campus activity including visitors and traffic, provides assistance when needed and enforces rules and regulations, helping to deter contraband from coming on the campus.* Monitors all doors and windows of buildings ensuring they are tightly closed and locked outside of main campus hours.* Responds to and investigates reports of suspicious or inappropriate activity on the property.* Respond quickly and use effective judgement to unusual emergency situations using appropriate escalation of force level.* Maintains and files appropriate documentation including pass down and incident reports and communicates information to applicable parties.* Follows policies and procedures with special attention to safety, confidentiality, attendance, punctuality, and dress code.* Other duties as assigned.Competencies:* Follows instructions, management direction, responds to requests for service or assistance, takes responsibility for own actions, meets attendance and punctuality guidelines, and commits to doing the best job possible* Focuses on attendance and punctuality by scheduling time off in advance, beginning and ending work on time, ensures work absences are within guidelines and work responsibilities are covered, arrives to meetings and appointments on time.* Personal appearance is well groomed and work attire is appropriate and professional.* Observe safety and security policies and procedures, determine appropriate action beyond guidelines, use equipment and materials properly, report potentially unsafe conditions.* Provides excellent customer service, displays courtesy, and sensitivity. Manages difficult or emotional customer service situations. Meets commitments and responds promptly to customer needs. Solicits customer feedback to improve service.* Provides organization support by following policies and procedures, completes administrative tasks correctly and on time, supports organizational goals and values, benefits organization through outside activities, supports affirmative action and respects diversity.* Demonstrates understanding of emergency procedures, alarm response evacuations and internal and external disaster plans.* Must have sound judgment in making decisions and understanding the impact to themselves, clients, employees, and the organization.Abilities:* Ability to clearly communicate information verbally and written so others will understand.* Ability to handle multiple priorities with a sense of urgency.* Ability to function effectively and remain calm in stressful situations.* Ability to well in a team environment.* Ability to interact effectively at various social levels and across diverse cultures.* Ability to maintain a neat and professional appearance and provide excellent customer service as needed.* Ability to work in extreme weather, including sometimes extremely hot or windy environments.* Ability to maintain a friendly, courteous and professional demeanor.Qualification and Experience* Minimum of 1 year experience as a security guard or related position.* Experience working in Substance Abuse environment is preferred.* State issued Security Guard License is a plus.* High School or GED is required.* CPR and First Aid Certification is required.Physical Demands and Working EnvironmentThe conditions herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
