You'll have the opportunity to interact with a wide variety of people in a calm, compassionate manner. You'll get to think on your feet to solve all kinds of problems from taking control of a medical emergency, providing security for public meetings, help someone into their office that misplaced their keys and everything in between. After business hours you'll maintain vigilance of the buildings with foot and vehicle patrols and monitor security cameras. You get to provide recaps of your day with reports and logs.Provide security for the State Capitol Building and other state buildings in the Lincoln area. Work independently to provide security for state property, respond to emergencies and alarms and provide assistance to state employees and the public. Perform vehicle and foot patrols of interior and exterior of buildings, fire monitoring, use an electronic guard tour system, access control and enforcement of building and parking rules/regulations. Operate audio/visual monitoring devices, monitor computer security system, control after hours building access by employees and visitors. Maintain a summary record of all shift activities, complaints and report to supervisor; learn and maintain information to locations to assist visitors.7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Tuesdays/Wednesdays off (Shifts may involve working days, evenings, and nights, along with weekends and holidays as needed for 24-hour coverage.)Requirements / Qualifications:Minimum Qualifications: No specific education, training, or experience is required for entry to this class.Preferred Qualifications: One year of security experience and Microsoft Office. Requires certification in first aid and CPR or must obtain within first six months of employment.Other: If selected for this position, you must meet the U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services employment eligibility requirements by completing an EEV (I-9) Form. The agency does not sponsor H1-B Visa's. Valid driver's license and complete approved defensive driving class necessary for the use of state vehicles. Must be able to walk approximately five (5) miles during each shift, and have the ability to climb stairs. Must be able to work shifts, weekends and holidays. Selection process will include an interview.Ability to: communicate in person, and by telephone, computer, email, and correspondence with state employees, government officials, visitors, and the public to exchange information; follow instructions; remain calm during emergency or adverse situations; handle difficult or irate individuals and maintain harmonious relationships; read and understand labels, signs, guidelines, and instructions; pay attention to remember and record details of incidents, people, places, and things; learn State and employing agency safety/security policies, procedures, and guidelines; operate equipment and vehicles used to perform assigned duties. Must have the ability to write accurate and detailed (computer generated) incident reports. The ideal candidate must be able to follow instructions, work from guidelines without close supervision and remain in control in adverse situations. This individual must also demonstrate good judgment, possess sound decision-making skills, and have excellent written and verbal communications skills.
