Big Bend Community College (BBCC), a rural college serving vibrant, culturally rich communities in the Columbia Basin of Central Washington seeks to develop a pool of applicants for temporary, hourly Security Guard positions. BBCC employs temporary employees to meet short-term and intermittent workload needs. Temporary Hourly employees have non-student status and are defined as those staff employees not occupying an appointed position and are temporary, at-will employees.Temporary Security Guards perform general security work; report violations of laws, ordinances, and college policies, maintain order, and prevent and investigate crime, security, safety, and related activities. These positions report directly to the Director of Campus Safety& Compliance. Although non-commissioned and unarmed, temporary Security Guards provide a security presence on campus on foot and vehicle patrols of the campus to monitor behavior, secure buildings and property, investigate disturbances, maintain order during events, and report violations. These positions monitor the physical security of campus buildings by locking and unlocking doors, using surveillance systems, and reporting suspicious behavior.In emergency situations, temporary Security Guards respond to the scene, provide first aid and alert additional police or emergency personnel as appropriate. These positions maintain radio communication with other safety personnel and officers on campus, helping to coordinate emergency plans. Security Guards complete and submit incident reports to supervisors or law enforcement agencies as appropriate. Other duties include monitoring alarm systems and responding to alerts, training additional temporary Security Guards or other employees with security responsibilities and serve as crowd control at special events.To work at BBCC you will be participating in a movement. Work with and/or assist city or county police and state patrol when needed or in cases of emergency. Administer first aid if needed.* Direct and regulate traffic, patrol campus parking areas on foot or in a vehicle, observe parking and traffic patterns.* Maintain surveillance of an area suspect for criminal activity to stop criminal activity.* Operate department communication equipment, answer telephone inquiries, receive reports of criminal activity, dispatch foot and mobile units, operate radio system, and monitor alarm systems.* Complete and file reports as required.* Operate complex computer programs.* Successfully work in and promote a multicultural work and education environment.* Support and advance the Big Bend Community College strategic plan.* Perform all other duties as assigned.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:* High School Diploma or equivalent.* Knowledge of security or law enforcement, investigation procedures, rules governing public access to buildings and grounds, electronic security systems, rules of behavior, general safety precautions and fire hazards, methods and procedures for searching for violators, fire-fighting equipment and fire prevention methods, and first aid.* Unencumbered valid driver's license from Washington or another state.* Current valid automobile insurance.* Valid First Aid/CPR Certification or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire.DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:* Two years of work experience as a security guard or equivalent experience or training.* Experience in a higher education environment.* Bilingual Spanish/English proficiency.* Bicultural experience.COMPETENCIES:* Ability to handle emergency situations and conflict without escalation.* Ability to investigate incidents and write reports.* Strong communication skills, both orally and in writing.* Knowledge of maintaining required reports and filing systems.* Ability to work in a team environment.* Ability to use a computer and possess and demonstrate ability to operate complex computer programs.* Ability to work varied/rotating shifts.* Acceptance of the responsibility to promote the welfare and best interests of students at all times.* A demonstrable understanding and acceptance of the mission, values, goals and objectives of Big Bend Community College.* The ability to perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with applicable laws, regulations and goals of the institution, community and technical college system.* Demonstrated commitment to fostering and supporting a teaching, learning and working environment that honors diversity, equity, and inclusion.In addition to the minimum and desirable qualifications listed above, we desire candidates who have a demonstrated commitment to serving Latinx and other under represented student populations in higher education.This position is open until filled. The rate for this position is $20.00 per hour. This position is not benefit eligible.Temporary, part-time positions earn sick leave based on hours worked each pay period at the rate of one (1) hour of sick leave for every forty (40) hours of work.Temporary hourly positions are exempt from the civil service rules and are limited to one (1) appointment at BBCC.
