This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Security Guard/Welcome Associate of The YMCA of Greater Monmouth County intentionally fosters a cause-centered culture that is safe, welcoming, and genuine. Under the direct supervision of the SACC Regional Coordinator, the Security Guard/Welcome Associate will be welcoming, friendly, courteous and attentive to all parents, guardians and staff, and above all will provide a safe experience for the children and families we serve.
Responsibilities:Demonstrate YMCA core character values of honesty, respect, responsibility, caring, and inclusion in all interactions with children, families, fellow employees, school staff and others. Must always be on time and ready for your scheduled shift, which includes but is not limited to adhering to the established branch and department dress code. Answer phones and the door in a professional and timely manner, ensuring that the adult is on the trusted contact list for dropping off and picking up a student in our Y program. Control access to school building by ensuring all individuals have proper identification or authorization. Responsible for being able to utilize the Daxko and Camp Docs system on the assigned iPad, to check parents/guardians contact information against a form of identification and look up emergency contact information when necessary. Responsible to radio to the SACC Supervisor and staff when a child is being dropped off or picked up. Responsible for maintaining a work area and shared school space that is neat and organized. Exercise sound judgment in relation to student safety & injuries. Follow all emergency procedures. Mediate conflicts and disturbances among students or visitors, utilizing de-escalation techniques and following established protocols. Visually inspect work area, space, and equipment for safety and risk, ensure phone and iPad are in working condition, and report to supervisor in writing any problems. Additionally, immediately report any unsafe or suspicious activity directly to the Supervisor and Regional Coordinator. Understand the incident reporting procedures; Complete detailed and accurate reports for administrative review and potential legal purposes within 24 hours. Adhere to policies related to boundaries with youth. Complete required youth abuse risk management training. Follow mandated abuse reporting procedures, including reporting suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations. Attend and participate in all required staff meetings and continuing job training.
Qualifications:High school diploma or equivalent; additional training in security or law enforcement is preferred. Proven experience as a security guard or related position, preferably in an educational setting. Strong observational and communication skills. Ability to remain calm and respond appropriately in stressful situations. Physical fitness and ability to stand/walk for extended periods. Knowledge of basic security and safety procedures. Must be at least 21 years of age Will require CPR/AED certification within 90 days of hire date
