Salary: $3,042.00 MonthlyLocation : Bexar County Sheriff's Office - 200 North Comal Street San Antonio, TXJob Type: Full-time RegularJob Number: 2024-00863Department: Bexar County Sheriff's OfficeDivision: Sheriff Support ServicesOpening Date: 01/03/2024Closing Date: ContinuousSummary Under supervision, is responsible for screening, monitoring and controlling access of all individuals andcontainers entering secured county facilities through designated entrances; operates metal detection, x-ray scanning and other surveillance equipment; monitors and tests emergency alarm systems; researches criminal history information; maintains activity logs; completes various clerical tasks; and performs related duties as required. Duties and Responsibilities
  • Screens individuals (and their possessions) entering the Adult Detention Center (ADC) for weapons and contraband; using stationary and hand-held metal detectors and x-ray scanners
  • Alerts appropriate authority when intervention by uniformed staff is necessary
  • Enforces ADC visitation policy and maintains control of the ADC Lobby and visitation areas
  • Monitors all aspects of inmate visits during the visitation process
  • Monitors surveillance equipment and emergency alarms such as two-way radios, television (TV) camera screens, fire alarms and duress alarms
  • Controls Justice Center security doors to allow authorized delivery, vendor, inmate and law enforcement officer access
  • Performs scheduled and unscheduled tests of alarm equipment and records results
  • Maintains activity logs for two-way radio transmissions, officer location, prisoner movement, transport van time and mileage, deliveries, recorded surveillance VCR tapes and Courthouse and Justice Center keys
  • Recognizes and detects potential weapons and contraband; adjusts to rapidly fluctuating situations; multi-task
  • Researches defendant and suspect criminal history and driver's license information utilizing the Texas Criminal Information Center (TCIC) and National Criminal Information Center (NCIC) computer systems
  • Performs related duties as required
Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduation from High School or a General Education Development (GED) certificate, and two (2) years' experience dealing with the public; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Preferred knowledge of security practices and procedures; preferred knowledge of security equipment and monitoring techniques
  • Skill in communicating verbally by telephone and radio; skill in monitoring multiple surveillance screens simultaneously
  • Ability to operate personal computer, two-way radio, handless telephone receiver, basic office equipment; ability to deal with hostile, abusive or irrational individuals; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with vendors, service providers, co-workers, other County employees and the public
  • Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation from the Bexar County Sheriff's Office
  • Must complete operational procedure training offered by the Sheriff's Office within six months of employment
  • Must clear a pre-employment physical and a pre-employment drug screen test
  • May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek; may work weekends, holidays and perform shift work
Working Environment and Physical Demands:
  • Working conditions are primarily inside and constantly exposed to the public and occasionally exposed to potentially hostile people
  • Occasionally moves items weighing up to 10 pounds

  • Frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery
  • Positions self to perform essential functions
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position
  • Subject to continuous periods of sitting or standing for up to eight (8) hours per day
