Job Summary:

Provide security services to HPU's Makapuu, Waimanalo facility to ensure the safety of facility staff and minimize losses to the aquaculture and research activities. This includes securing the aquaculture research facility during non-business hours per set protocols. Completing scheduled security and minor maintenance tasks. Monitoring aquaculture ponds, tanks and research activities. Responding appropriately to facility emergencies per protocols and training.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

* High school diploma or equivalent.

* Two years previous security experience.

* Provide Security Guard Registration License (GDE) or must be able to pass any state required training or other qualifications for licensing.

* Two years general commercial facility maintenance experience, with general handyman basic skills in plumbing, carpentry, and power tools use.

* General knowledge of electrical safety.

* Basic ability to operate a computer to access emails and Microsoft programs.

* Upon hire, candidate must have reliable transportation to all HPU worksites and other locations as required by the position.

Desired Qualifications:

* Good interpersonal and communication skills, good judgment, strong organization skills, able to handle multiple tasks.

* Knowledge of pool pump systems operations and maintenance.

Other Qualifications:

* Must meet training and background check qualifications and comply with HPU's Protection of Minors policy.

* Report to work obligations per set schedule to support the department and may require to work all shifts (24/7), holidays, winter break, and extended hours if needed, and cover for security staff vacation requests when necessary.

* Successful candidate will be able to work in an environment that utilize excellent time and stress management skills.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Security Responsibility 65%

* Respond to intruders, notifying supervisor as appropriate.

* Monitor staff/faculty/student access to the facilities, mechanical systems, aquaculture, and research projects.

* Respond to after-hour system emergencies and power outages.

* Respond appropriately to medical emergencies, if necessary.

* Maintain security activity log.

* Assist the Manager, Maintenance and Security with facility security issues as requested.

* Initiate emergency protocols to minimize unscheduled downtime and aquaculture losses

2. Maintenance Responsibility 30%

* During HECO power outages as trained start emergency generators, verify and/or initiate electrical transfers switch gear to operate air and sea water pumping systems.

* Respond to emergency repairs and requests in a timely manner per security protocols and training. Which may require operating and isolating water and air system valves, repairing flexible hoses, or turning off electrical motors controls; switches or circuit breakers.

* Report malfunctions to the Maintenance Manager and/or Electrical Supervisor.

* Maintain facility aquarium and pond exhibits as directed by the Manager, Maintenance and Security. May require backwashing sand filters, and removing debris from pump inlet sump screens as trained.

* Responsible for understanding any potential hazards and special requirements for a tasked based on the relevant Global Harmonized System requirements and SDS (Safety Data Sheet) information.

3. Performs other related duties as assigned (5%)

* Actively participates as an effective team member completing assigned duties, accepting additional assignments or reassignments.

* Assists with seasonal peaks.
