Summary:
The Emergency Care Center Security Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure work environment free of hazards for Covenant HealthCare patients, employees, guest, and partners within the ECC.
The Security Officer demonstrates excellent customer service performance in that his/her attitude and actions are always consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission and Values of Covenant HealthCare and the commitment to Extraordinary Care for Every Generation.
Covenant Healthcare recognizes the ECC is an environment where critically ill and high- risk individuals are gathered in a confined space. The risk of violence is much higher than other areas of the hospital. The ECC Security Officer is required to perform duties above and beyond that of other Security Officers at Covenant Healthcare. Therefore, ECC Security Officers are required to attend additional training as assigned. Examples of this training may include topics such as:
* De-escalation of Behavioral Health/Mental Health patients
* Clinical aggression versus Criminal Aggression Training
* Restraint/Seclusion (conditions of participation)
* Understanding Behavioral Health/Mental health patients
* Workplace Violence Prevention/Managing Violent Events
* Non-Violent Crisis Intervention
Responsibilities:
Assures the physical safety of patients, guests, and partners on the premises according to established safety guidelines.
Monitors and assists with safety and security programs adherent regulatory requirements (Fire drills, Safety and Hazard Inspections, Fire Extinguisher inspections, Emergency Preparedness exercises, Panic alarm inspections) as assigned. .
Investigate incidents involving security of the facilities using good oral, written and observation skills.
Handle unruly customers from a variety of backgrounds and personalities with positive outcomes utilizing PPCT and CPI
Transport patients, visitors, employees, and Covenant HealthCare property.
Treat every individual based on his or her age specific needs.
Complete annual certification training in Safe Drive, OC/Pepper Spray, Violent Patient Management, Defensive Tactics and Crisis Prevention Intervention.
Other information:
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
6 months experience as a Covenant Healthcare Security Officer or demonstrated related work/life experience outside of Covenant.
High School graduate or equivalent.
Higher education in area of Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice or Security is encouraged.
Valid Michigan Driver's license and a driving record that allows
Covenant HealthCare's auto insurance carrier to provide insurance coverage
CPR Certification encouraged
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Basic computer knowledge/skills.
Excellent written and verbal skills
Work independently with minimal supervision.
Follow direction and prioritize work assignments.
Must participate in competency-based interview process/training program (beyond the required 40-hour training for all new officers).
Yearly successful evaluation, on skills and abilities to intervene in difficult situations and arrive at win-win solutions.
