Our clients are committed to revitalizing Oakland's historic downtown by maintaining cleanliness and order in the public rights-of-way, promoting district identity, building community, promoting business attraction, fostering cultural opportunities, and creating and maintaining new public spaces as well as advocating on behalf of the district stakeholders. Position SummaryA Security Ambassador for Barbier Security Group provides a wide variety of essential services to the Uptown Downtown Oakland Community Benefit Districts. As a Security Ambassador your duties will be varied; however, the ideal candidate will demonstrate interpersonal skills that contribute to delivery of an exceptional client and community experience.Position DescriptionSecurity Ambassadors play a crucial role in maintaining a safe and welcoming environment in our city's downtown area. By patrolling on bike, they serve as a visible deterrent to unwanted behavior and activities, offering assistance, information, and directions to downtown workers, residents, and visitors.Essential Functions
- Deterrence: Ambassadors will patrol assigned zones on bike, utilizing their uniformed presence to discourage unwanted activities.
- Observation and Reporting: Vigilantly monitor for any unwanted behaviors or criminal activities, promptly reporting them to local authorities using established protocols. Must accurately describe individuals, vehicles, and other relevant identifiers.
- Addressing Unwanted Activities: Firmly yet courteously address low-level quality of life violations (e.g., aggressive panhandling, loitering) to ensure compliance.
- Hospitality and Customer Service: Proactively greet pedestrians and assist visitors with directions, city information, or recommendations, embodying the city's welcoming spirit.
- Stakeholder Relations: Conduct regular visits to district businesses, sharing information and establishing professional relationships on behalf of the organization.
- Reporting: Prepare detailed Incident and Property Condition Reports, along with daily summaries of shift activities.
- Professionalism: Uphold a positive and professional demeanor, adhering strictly to legal standards, policies, procedures, and our clients expectations of professionalism.
Qualifications:
- Excellent interpersonal and written skills; bilingual is a plus
- Eligibility to work in the United States
- Professional appearance; well groomed with no visible tattoos or piercings
- A minimum of one year of prior experience in security or a related field, with a proven track record in de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques.
- Desire to pursue a career in public service, law enforcement, or criminal justice
Requirements:
- Ensure compliance with company and client policies and procedures and be willing to improve performance
- Ability to stand and walk for majority of shift on various surfaces (concrete, carpet, etc.)
- Must have the physical capacity to walk continuously, and ride a bicycle while towing up to 125 lbs throughout an eight hour shift
- Must be able to work outdoors in all conditions with provided inclement weather gear
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
- Must be able to speak, read, and write the English language in order to create basic reports. The ability to speak other languages is a plus
- Must maintain a positive, professional environment in full compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, procedures and exhibit overall professionalism
- Must be dedicated to serving the community
- Ability to maintain clear boundaries and strict confidentiality with clients
- Ability to create a compassionate and empowering connection with visitors, residents, and members of the community
- Ability to remain calm in crisis situations, think well on one's feet, de-escalate situations, and promote positive communication
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Good listening skills, with a strong ability to be patient and compassionate with community members challenged by mental health issues
- Core competency to effectively relate with a culturally and racially diverse group of staff, residents, and tenants.
- Be a minimum of 18 years of age
- High School Diploma (or equivalent)
- Must be able to provide proof of valid CA Driver's license and clean driving record.
- Valid BSIS Guard Card License
- Reliable form of transportation
- Basic computer and smartphone proficiency
