SUMMARY:The Security Officer is responsible for protecting life and property on the Millstone Campus including entities designated that may not be on the contiguous Millstone Campus. The Officer position is armed and functions in a patrol capacity. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Protects life and property on the Millstone Campus.
- Ensures secures premises and personnel by patrolling property; monitoring surveillance equipment when necessary; inspecting buildings, equipment, and access points.
- Prevents losses and damage by reporting irregularities; informing violators of policy and procedures; warning and requesting departure of trespassers.
- Controls traffic by enforcing traffic control applications on campus.
- Completes reports by recording observations, information, occurrences, and surveillance activities, interviewing witnesses and obtaining statements.
- Maintains environment by monitoring and setting building and equipment controls and controlling access to locked and sensitive areas.
- Maintains organization's stability and reputation by complying with legal requirements.
- Ensures operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Provides armed first response to criminal threats of violence against persons on the Millstone Campus, other designated entities and at special events.
- Provide additional security services to special community events.
- Provide services such as Vehicle Jump Start; vehicle locates and employee escorts.
- In case of emergency, when no direct-line supervisor is immediately available, any senior Federation Official may take control of the scene as identified in the Emergency Procedures Manual and shall assume responsibility for the situation and shall function in place of a direct-line supervisor until the latter arrives to take charge. In the absence of a direct-line supervisor or a senior Federation Official, the security officer on the scene shall assume responsibility for the situation; and all other persons on the scene, employees and non-employees are expected to comply with the security officers' directives.
- Ensure that they are always fully aware of all pertinent job-related communications.
- All other duties deemed applicable by the DCS.
EXPERIENCE and QUALIFICATIONS:Required Qualifications: Security Officer
- Commissioned police officer (any capacity Federal, State or Local)
- Military police officer as follows:
S. Army Military Police, CID, CI, and USA Civilian Police. S. Navy Master-at-Arms, Shore Patrol and USN Civilian Police. S. Coast Guard Boarding Officers, CG Police Officers, CG Security Force Officers, and CGIS Special Agents S. Air Force Air Police, Security Police, Security Forces, and USAF Civilian Police.- Any current of former military service with a combat MOS.
- The above qualifications may be substituted with the following:
Corrections Officer with Sheriff's Office or State/Federal Correctional Facility. 3 Years Armed Security for major Healthcare Institution. 3 Years Armed Security/Public Safety for Institution of Higher Learning. 3 Years Loss Prevention. Security officers at an NRC (Nuclear Regulatory Commission) licensee facility who have been approved for combined enhanced weapons authority and preemption authority or stand-alone preemption authority under Section 161A of the Atomic Energy Act of 1954, as amended. - Prefer experience in the security field in addition to the above approved law enforcement roles.
- High School Graduate; with two years college education or related work experience preferred.
- Familiarity with the BEST PRACTICE methods and techniques associated with maintaining security.
- Possess a valid State Issued Driver's License.
- Obtain, possess and always maintain, a valid Armed Uniform Exempt St. Louis County Security Officer License.

Firearms
- Security Officer's must obtain and maintain a firearm of the specified model and caliber as designated by the Community Security Director.
- The Officer must maintain the appropriate training and qualification required by the St. Louis County Police Department Security Licensing Division for armed licenses.
- In addition, the officer must be LEOSA (Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act) or have a Concealed Carry Permit from the State of Missouri for the Uniform Exempt portion of the license.
- The Officer may be required to complete additional training as required by the Jewish Federation.
- LAUTENBERG AMENDEMENT: This position authorizes the incumbent to carry a firearm. Any person who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence cannot lawfully possess a firearm or ammunition (Title 18, U.S.C., Section 922(g)(91)). Candidates who have been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence are not qualified for this position. Candidates under consideration will be required to certify whether they have ever been convicted of such an offense. False or fraudulent information provided by candidates is criminally punishable by fine or imprisonment (Title 18, U.S.C., Section 1001).
CERTIFICATES -LICENSES
- Ability to obtain and maintain an Armed Uniform Exempt Metro Security Officer License from St. Louis County.
- In addition, the Officer will be licensed and certified for all Less than Lethal weapons carried including handcuff and ASP Baton certifications.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Professional experience in carrying a firearm and the safety and responsibility that brings.
- Ability to lift and/or move heavy objects.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends and special events as needed.
- Ability to be flexible with work schedule and work past normally scheduled hours when events and staff are present as directed.
- Ability to sit (vehicle) and stand (events) for long periods of time.
- May be required to work in cold or hot weather.
- May be required to work in stressful situations.
