The Campus Safety Department of Saint Joseph's College of Maine is accepting applications for Per Diem Security Officers!This position is responsible for the overall safety of a college community consisting of students, faculty, staff, and guests, and serves as key service provider to the campus. Position Description:
- Duties include routine patrol of the College campus
- Responding to requests and emergencies
- Providing security assistance at events
- Parking enforcement and ticketing
- Ensuring the well-being of the on-campus student population
- Securing buildings and the campus property
- The College's Campus Safety Department enjoys a collaborative relationship with Cumberland County Sheriff's Office, as well as local fire and EMS services provided by Standish the the surrounding communities
Minimum Qualifications:
- A minimum of a High School degree is required
- An Associates, Bachelors, or Criminal Justice Academy degree is preferred
- A valid driver's license and ability to successfully pass a background check is required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Communication Skills: Campus Safety Officers are unique in that they interact with a variety of individuals on campus. A professional demeanor and positive communication style are necessary to effectively engage with others, perform investigations, and complete proper documentation.
- Problem Solving: This position offers a variety of instances that require the ability to assess situations and arrive at safe outcomes. This is a key skill that is often used throughout the day, whether it be de-escalating a situation or responding to violations.
- Conflict Resolution: Campus Safety Officers are frequently utilized in situations with students, faculty, and staff to resolve an issue or conflict. The ability to provide a consistent, calm yet firm position while de-escalating a situation is a necessary skill and provides positive role modeling for others.
- Relationship Building: As mentioned above, this role interacts with a variety of individuals across the campus community. Building relationships with students, faculty, and staff is viewed as a positive example of creating and supporting not only a safe environment, but the Saint Joseph's College mission and core values.
Additional Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Ability to read and comprehend written materials
- Ability to transcribe incidents/issues into written Incident Reports utilized by a variety of campus partners (academic affairs, residence life, dean's office, health center, etc.)
- Use of electronic Security systems: CAD/CCTV/Proximity Card Readers
- Ability to concentrate and complete tasks with interruptions
