Responsibilities:
Essential Functions
- Conducts interactions with everyone in a friendly, courteous and respectful manner.
- Goes out of his/her way to offer assistance to others. If he/she cannot offer assistance, then finds someone who can.
- Advocates to ensure privacy and confidentiality while helping others to maintain awareness.
- Maintains a clean and safe hospital.
- Responds appropriately and immediately in emergency situations.
- Maintains a safe and healthy environment for patients, visitors, and/or staff to provide the highest level of physical comfort, and minimize risk and injury.
- Ensures compliance with regulations to maintain accreditation and licensure.
- Complies with the Hospital Attendance and Tardiness Policy.
- Completes all Hospital and Department Specific Mandatory requirements in the prior calendar year.
- Reports Incidents in a timely and effective manner.
- All employees with direct patient contact are responsible for actively engaging in the practice of, monitoring and enforcing compliance to hand hygiene.
- Strive to provide the highest level of customer service to hospital employees, patients, and visitors.
- Greet, welcome, and assist employees, visitors, and patients.
- Respond to incidents, complaints, alarms, and create detailed written reports.
- Patrol buildings and grounds while conducting thorough structured tours in accordance with supervisor instruction, post orders, and policy.
- Direct traffic and enforce parking regulations in accordance with supervisor instruction, post orders, and policy.
- Assist the clinical staff with patients as requested while maintaining patient safety as a priority.
- Complete all logs, reports, and other documentation completely, with great detail, and within designated time allotments.
- Control access to the hospital and areas of the hospital by operating entry controls and by conducting locked door checks.
- Answer phones, record, and relay messages as needed.
- Inspect and safeguard security and safety equipment.
- Report for duty prepared and ready.
- Perform other related duties as required by the security supervisor, post orders, and policy.
- Effectively balance time and tasks, with prioritization based on importance and impact.
- Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
- Work hospital valet as needed and when scheduled by the security supervisor.
- Maintain a working knowledge of the hospital policies, rules, and regulations.
- Follow directives issued by the Director of Security and Security Supervisor.

Functional Demands
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand for long periods of time, often an entire shift. Ability to walk long distances often throughout each shift and run short distances occasionally. Exerts 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Frequently reaches (extending hands and arms in any direction), and handles (seizing, holding, grasping, turning or working with hands). Frequently stoops (bending the body downward and forward by bending the spine at the waist). Ability to work in adverse weather conditions such as rain, snow, cold, and heat.

Job Requirements
Minimum Education
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Minimum Work Experience
- 2 years of Law Enforcement, Military, Security Officer experience, or equivalent education and experience combination strongly preferred
- Must be able to drive the Hospital Shuttle van and or patient/visitor vehicles in all weather conditions.
Minimum Licenses
- Must be at least 21 years of age and have a valid MA drivers license to operate motor vehicles with at least four consecutive years of driving experience in good standing.
Required Skills
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business documents.
- Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing effectively.
- Ability to effectively deal with highly stressful/emotional situations (e.g. complaints, fights, emergencies, etc.).
- Ability to deal with patients, employees, visitors, and customers with tact and confidentiality.
- Must be able to physically manageand verbally de-escalate patients and visitors as needed while maintaining the physical safety of all parties involved and professionalism.
- Understanding and working knowledge of computers and databases.
- Officers will be required to float between multiple facilities including but not limited to Heywood Hospital and Athol Hospital.
- Must be able to work within a rotating schedule framework.
- Officers will be required to perform light cleaning and maintenance tasks asneeded/assigned.
