The Opportunity

We are seeking a Security Supervisor to join our Firm. This position will be based in our Washington D.C. office (in-office presence required). The Security Supervisor supervises the daily activity of departmental personnel and ensures operating needs are met. The Supervisor assists the department Manager in providing oversight of the firm office space to ensure a safe and secure environment. Provides problem-solving assistance and participates in department projects including Emergency Response/Crisis Management procedures and theft investigations. Collaborates with building management on various matters, including organizing security cameras and surveillance.

  • Oversees the daily activity of Security staff to ensure that the day-to-day security function is delivered in a timely and effective manner in accordance with firm business requirements and industry standards.
  • Maintains current knowledge of security technology, surveillance procedures, security issues as well as trends that impact operations.
  • Assesses and implements various safety initiatives and enhancements for the Washington, DC Office, in accordance with security industry best practices.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with local law and federal law enforcement, and fire protection agencies.
  • Interacts with building management and security vendors in monitoring and maintaining security equipment and technology (e.g., building, elevator, and suite access systems, fire alarms, fire extinguishers, AEDs, etc.).
  • Conducts detailed security risk assessments and produces reports on findings. Prevents or mitigates risks while responsibly managing and protecting significant firm assets.
  • Conducts and effectively documents internal investigations with regard to criminal, disciplinary, and other matters, as appropriate.
  • Intervenes to resolve problems that arise from security-related breaches.
  • Assists the department Manager in maintaining Emergency Response/Crisis Management/Disaster Plans and serves on the Crisis Management Committee.
  • Assists department Manager in the event of an emergency or natural disaster to ensure a coordinated and professionally managed approach to the safety and security of the Washington, DC office.
  • Assists the department Manager, in conjunction with NY Office Security Director, to develop and implement training programs in safety, security, disaster preparedness, and other related topics (e.g., CPR/AED) for Washington, DC Office personnel.
  • Remains informed of current events in the metropolitan area and the anticipated impact on the security needs of the Washington, DC office. Provides periodic, written safety alerts to Washington, DC Office personnel.
  • Serves as liaison with garage management in the 1440 New York Avenue and 1420 New York Avenue garages.
  • Ensures current knowledge of firm policies and practices for staff, current knowledge of industry trends, and continued professional development for staff.
  • Participates in the interviewing, selection and training process.
  • Recommends and implements changes and improvements in methods and procedures to higher-level management.
  • Coordinates and oversees department projects, day-to-day operations and long-range plans.
  • Assists in developing and monitoring the department budget.
  • Monitors time, attendance, overtime and expense reports to ensure accuracy and compliance with firm policies.
  • Recommends and participates in disciplinary procedures in collaboration with the department Senior Manager and Human Resources.
  • Effectively utilizes the firm's performance management process to communicate performance expectations, monitor performance, coach employees, and manage unsatisfactory performance.
  • Oversees employees' work performance and provides guidance in the resolution of problems.
  • Recommends guidelines and practices to promote efficiency, effectiveness, excellent customer service, and improved employee relations, in alignment with the firm's Core Values.
  • Develops and communicates departmental guidelines and procedures.
  • Ensures accurate and timely responses to requests for departmental services.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Current knowledge of industry best practices, trends, and techniques
  • Knowledge of relevant firm computer software programs (e.g., Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), with the ability to learn new software and operating systems
  • Knowledge and implementation of the annual budget process
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, organizational and planning skills
  • Ability to effectively supervise others and employ coaching and problem-solving techniques
  • Ability to administer Firm policies and procedures
  • Ability to handle sensitive matters and maintain confidentiality
  • Flexibility to travel
  • Flexibility to adjust hours and work the hours necessary to meet operating and business needs

Experience/Education

  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of directly related education and experience.
  • Minimum of three years security experience in a professional services firm, law enforcement, or military environment with a minimum of two years supervisory or leadership experience.
