As a Seed Research Technician, you will assist Field Operations with maintaining sorghum and sunflower parental lines used in the production of commercial hybrid seed.
What you will do:
* Observe and practice all safety procedures to establish a strong safety culture.
* Maintain working area in a clean and orderly 30-minute tour ready manner.
* Gain knowledge of procedures for seed packaging, threshing, seed inventory and field planting order.
* Gain knowledge of nursery pollination procedures for sorghum and sunflower. Be able to take leadership role in nursery pollination.
* Assist in all aspects of preparing seed for planting including cleaning, treating, packaging and inventory.
* Assist in all aspects of nursery and yield trial plot maintenance.
* Assist with nursery harvest and yield plots.
* Assist product development with preparation of plot seed.
* Assist in all aspects of planting parent seed increases, nurseries, and yield plots.
* Gain knowledge of roguing procedures for removal of undesirable plants in order to maintain genetic purity. Be able to take leadership role in roguing procedure.
* Gain skills needed to perform isolation activities needed to maintain genetic purity. Be able to take leadership role of isolation work.
* Operate farm equipment such as forklift, UTV, trailers, tractor, sprayer, and combine. Gain knowledge needed to operate farm implements such as planter, rotary hoe, cultivator, and rod weeder.
* Assist in other areas of facility as needed.
What you will bring:
* Driver's license with Class A CDL preferred.
* High school diploma or equivalent qualification.
* Non-Commercial Pesticide Applicator License.
* A minimum of 1 year experience in a similar role preferred.
* Computer skills.
* Able to work outdoors.
* Able to work around pollen shed and grain dust.
* Available to work overtime or weekends during growing seasons.
