Job DescriptionSEMCO - Meter & Billing SpecialistPosition SummarySEMCO Energy is seeking two Meter & Billing Specialists to join our Customer Accounting team! Our Meter & Billing Specialists are responsible for managing the accuracy of monthly customer billings and data in the Customer Information System (CIS), processing meter read files and meter reading exceptions (high/lows); including analyzing meter data to validate its accuracy taking the appropriate corrective action as needed. Our Meter & Billing Specialists also work with both internal & external business partners to resolve inquiries and issues, act as subject matter experts on any meter and billing matters, and assist in developing recommendations to solve issues related to business operations.If you thrive in a detail-oriented environment and are passionate about contributing to a dynamic and high-performing team, we encourage you to apply today to this exciting position!Tasks and ResponsibilitiesManage residential and commercial metering data ensuring accounts are billed on time and accurately.Manage the daily import/export of meter data utilizing the Field Collection System (FCS)Analyze meter data to validate its accuracy, estimate missing data, and support billing processes; utilize analytical and reasoning skills to determine appropriate action including field and meter investigations.Create and maintain work orders on customer accounts detailing corrective action or follow-up.Adhere to all corporate policies as well as internal and external compliance guidelines.Monitor the customer billing cycle and ensure that all records are submitted on a timely basis and established deadlines are met.Review, analyze, and process a variety of AR exception reports taking corrective action as needed to ensure accurate customer billingsUnderstand rate structure, conversion formulas, and the overall structure of the billing process.Verify the authenticity of information provided when creating/changing a customer's account.Communicate effectively with field technicians and dispatch regarding meter reading routes, meter errors, and potential gas leaks.Review and process billing adjustments on customer accounts; ensure adjustment requests are reasonable and within departmental guidelines.Assist in developing recommendations to solve problems and issues related to meter data and billing issues; collaborate with other departments as required.Adheres to internal controls and processes documenting activities accurately and on time. Ensure all SOX revenue controls are followed.Qualifications, Skills, and AbilitiesHigh school diploma or GED equivalent required; bachelor's degree preferred.3+ years of experience in billing, utility metering data analysis, and report analysis requiredAbility to communicate effectively with internal/external business partners.Ability to manage time to maintain department productivity standards.Manage and maintain data integrity in data management systems.Detail orientation coupled with demonstrated strong project management skills are required.Proficient knowledge of MS Office applications including Word, Excel, and Access is required.Strong interpersonal skills: professional, courteous, friendly, warm, empathetic, level-headed, and composed.General awareness of tariffs, general service provisions, billing systems, and collection laws/regulations required.Ability to analyze and solve business problems.Ability to write and present diverse ideas logically and concisely.The hourly wage for this position is $21 to $23 per hour, commensurate with experience, education, and skills.
