Position Summary:The Senior Academic Success Advisor will work specifically with prospective medical students participating in linked Pre-medical programs (programs for students interested in rural medicine and our Alabama HBCU early assurance program) to enhance their preparedness for medical school through the development of research-informed active learning strategies, provision of academic coaching, and exposure to the curricular rigor, and other expectations of medical students enrolled in the University of Alabama at Birmingham Heersink School of Medicine.The Senior Academic Success Advisor will meet with pre-matriculation students in person and virtually to assess and assist with academic progress. Also, they will be a member of the Heersink School of Medicine's Medical Student Services program, reporting to the Director of Academic Success. The incumbent collaborates with the leadership of UAB-HSOM-linked Pre-medical Programs and the School of Medicine's admissions program.Key Duties and Responsibilities* Develop collaborative and enduring partnerships with UAB HSOM linked pre-medical programs.* Design academic support services in line with the needs and missions of these programs.* Meet with pre-matriculation students in person and virtually to assess and assist with academic progress.* Utilize learning, educational, and counseling sciences to coach students in developing personalized study plans for pre-medical coursework.* Provide evidence-based guidance on preparation for the Medical College Admission Test.* Organize and lead workshops for pathway students on topics relevant to learning and test-taking skills.* Support the transition from pre-matriculation student to medical student including linking to UABHSOM learning and other support services.* Participate in K-12 and higher education programs supported by the UAB HSOM.* Collaborate with the UABHSOM admissions recruitment program.* Engage in regular program assessment with key stakeholders.* Perform other duties as assignedSalary Range: $60,835 - $98,855Master's degree in a related field and five (5) years of relevant experience required.
