Job Description

Summary/objective

Applies principles of accounting for financial report preparation and analysis purposes. This position is responsible for general ledger accounting, including analysis of business transactions to prepare journal entries, portions of the month-end close process, financial data preparation, account analysis and reconciliations. The successful applicant will have the skills necessary to develop, interpret, and implement moderate to complex financial accounting concepts or techniques for financial planning, reporting, and control.

Essential functions

* Records accurate accounting transactions within the guidelines of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and not-for-profit accounting.

* Responsible for Campus Store accounting functions including:

* recording deposits

* statement reconciliations

* inventory adjustments

* sales & use tax reporting

* Responsible for reviewing/filing of sales and use tax filings:

* Maier

* MFA

* Alumnae/i)

* Responsible for accounting and recordkeeping associated with the federal Perkins Loan program and serves as subject matter expert within the federal Perkins Loan Program:

* Liaison between Financial Aid and Business Office to ensure open flow of information

* Assist in preparation of the annual financial aid Fiscal Operations Report and Application to Participate (FISAP)

* Reconciliation of balances with 3rd party loan servicer (UAS)

* Preparation of journal entries to loan accounts

* Reconciliation of Perkins Loan cash account

* Reviews, journalizes and/or adjusts complex gift transactions. Recommends proper accounting treatment of gifts and pledges to the Controller or the VP for Finance and Administration:

* Quarterly Gift Reconciliation

* Quarterly Stock Gain/Loss

* Quarterly Pledges Receivables

* Serves as primary backup for accounts payable functions, review accounts payable batches before they are processed, and performs other backup duties in multiple areas when other staff are out of the office.

* Audits travel advances and expenses/ research outstanding advances, analyze data and troubleshoots problems.

* Journalize mortgage payments and annual 1099-INT reporting.

* Reviews balance sheet account reconciliations, identifies errors, and provides feedback for corrections. Reconciles and analyzes balance sheet accounts; journal adjustments and corrections as needed. This includes bank reconciliations, various camp reconciliations, prepaid expenses, chargebacks, credit card reconciliation to the general ledger.

* Responsible for the preparation of the annual Alumnae/i Association internal audit.

* Assists in the College's annual audit and preparation of financial statements.

* Other duties assigned by or with the Controller.

Required education and experience

Bachelor's degree required with an emphasis in accounting.

Preferred education and experience

* At least three years of work experience preferred

* Higher Education or non-profit experience

* Must work well in a team environment

* Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite with advanced experience in Excel

* Experience using computer-based accounting systems, Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains experience a plus
