This Job:

Title: Senior Accountant

You'll Report to: Chief Financial Officer

The Senior Accountant will be responsible for internal controls, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and technical accounting research. He/she will maintain accounting records, develop financial statements and reports, assist various entities in interpreting the financial reports, and assist in the preparation of financial reports for the executive team, the Office of Insurance Regulation, auditors, banking entities, and reinsurers.

What Youll Do:
  • Continuously drives process improvement within the team and supports cross-functional initiatives.
  • Assist with technical accounting research and documentation, including evaluating new GAAP or statutory reporting requirements. Summarizes results of accounting research to management.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements.
  • Strong knowledge in GAAP and statutory accounting principles.
  • Prepare journal entries and worksheets to substantiate and document account balances.
  • Prepare filings, which include quarterly and annual statements and compliance.
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts to detail.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard financial assets and ensure the integrity of financial reporting.
  • Manages the internal and external audit process.
  • Assists in the preparation of financial reports for review by the executive team, the Office of Insurance Regulation, auditors, banking entities, and reinsurers.
What Youll Need to be a Top Candidate:

Education: Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Business, or other related field from a four-year institution. The bachelor's degree is a minimum educational requirement for this position, and cannot be waived.

Experience: 4 to 7 years in an accounting or auditing role in the property and casualty insurance industry. The ideal candidate will have knowledge with both GAAP and statutory accounting principles.

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Microsoft Office Suite: Excel, Outlook, Word (required)
  • General Ledger or Accounts Payable systems (required)
  • Experience with actual business functions of a company (preferred)
  • Proper oral communication; speaks clearly, listens respectfully (required)
  • Good written communication; reviews work for spelling and grammar (required)
  • Exceptional organization skills and high attention to detail. Completes all administrative tasks in assigned times (required)

  • Ability to problem solve and work independently (required)
Your Environment:

Working Conditions: Normal business office environment. Must be able to remain in a stationary position for periods of time while constantly operating a computer and or other office productivity machinery such as a calculator or telephone. The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery or communicate with coworkers.

Hours and Location: 8:30 - 5:30 Monday through Friday. This role is on-site in our headquarters in Tampa, FL. #LI-Onsite
