Position Type: District Support Services/AccountingDate Posted: 12/2/2024Location: District OfficeDate Available: 12/09/2024Closing Date: Open until filledDistrict: Owatonna Public SchoolsPosition Summary: Under the direction of the Director of Finance & Operations, the Senior Accountant is responsible for performing accurate, difficult, and complex budgetary and accounting duties in the maintenance of District budgets and financial records to ensure proper allocation of funding sources and the financial viability of the District; is responsible specifically to manage grant funds and work with program administrators in administering grant funds independently and with minimal supervision; is responsible to manage the Special Education Data Reporting Application (SEDRA) system. Support for high-level fiscal processes including budgeting, internal auditing, financial reporting and analysis, and maintaining integrity in our data for finance grants can be expected. The Senior Accountant must respond professionally and expediently to frequently asked questions and requests from District employees as well as outside agency employees and service providers. Position Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration required. Three years of successful and progressively responsible accounting and/or finance experience or related experience that would provide the desired skills, knowledge, and ability to perform the job. Experience with spreadsheets for data analysis, Google G Suite, and Microsoft Office. Experience with school district accounting (UFARS) or governmental (fund) accounting preferred. Performing work assignments requiring attention to detail, precision, and accuracy in accordance with set deadlines. Language Skills: Communicate clearly and concisely in a business-like manner including written, interpersonal, public speaking, conflict resolution, and presentations. Other Skills & Abilities: Thorough knowledge of the policies, practices, methods, and techniques used in the administrative functions of a school office; thorough knowledge of prescribed School Board policies and procedures; proficient in accounting, bookkeeping, budgeting, resource management, grant writing, and grant management; strong analytical skills and proficiency with financial data and spreadsheets. Thorough understanding of the laws, rules, regulations, and requirements pertaining to areas of accounting responsibility (e.g. UFARS, SEDRA, GAAP, GASB). Ability to organize, process, and complete tasks with accuracy and efficiency. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to maintain the confidentiality of all information regarding students and staff in compliance with district policy and state and federal data privacy laws. General knowledge of school division personnel rules and regulations; general knowledge of regulations regarding the maintenance and updating of personnel files; excellent interpersonal skills; thorough skill in the use of personal computers and related software packages, hardware, and peripheral equipment; demonstrated successful experience in each key areas of responsibility, ability to present ideas effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to apply established policies, practices and procedures with limited direction and supervision; ability to follow direction from others and to perform related duties with minimal supervision and oversight; ability to adhere to timelines under pressure and maintain reasonable reliability. Demonstrated consistent and reliable attendance.
