First Choice Services is a non-profit operating several FREE programs and helplines across multiple states with the common goal of making behavioral health and social services easier to access and navigate! And we do all of this from our beautiful office in Charleston, WV!

What does an Accountant at First Choice Services do?

Our First Choice Services Accountant will work with the CFO and Accounting Assistant on all things accounting! This position will perform bank reconciliations, data entry, grant reporting, and financial statement prep!

What are some of the essential functions?

  • Perform basic accounting tasks, such as invoicing vendors, obtaining appropriate vendor information and inputting the information into the accounting system, following up on past-due accounts, maintaining accurate ledgers and databases, handling special or difficult billing situations, auditing ledgers for accurate invoice numbers and billing addresses.
  • Grant reporting and assistance with expense coding as needed.
  • Grant correspondence as necessary.
  • Assist with payroll and benefit functions.
  • Resolving payroll discrepancies and answering any employee payroll queries.
  • Bank account reconciliations.
  • Payroll and benefit reconciliations.
  • Equipment tracking.
  • Financial statement preparation.
  • Budgeting.
  • Communicate effectively with program directors and administrative staff within the agency.
  • Participate in professional development, staff meetings, continuing education, quality improvement and performance review as required.

What are the requirements for the positions?

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance preferred but can be substituted with experience.
  • Experience with using Quickbooks desktop version and Paycor strongly preferred.
  • Must have a basic understanding of accounting and payroll functions.
  • Must have a high comfort level using excel.
  • Experience working in a non-profit preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Ability to pass a background check and pre-employment drug screen (post-offer).
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Continuous computer work, so candidates must have computer and typing skills.
  • Compassion and understanding for those challenged by mental health, addiction and/or suicidal ideation.
