Overview: The Senior Accountant is an integral part of the accounting team, responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial statements, preparing regulatory reporting, assisting with the financial budget and planning, general ledger account reconciliations, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. Reporting to the Manager of Accounting, this is a key role in financial reporting, internal controls, analysis, and process improvement initiatives. Responsibilities: Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following: Participate in the month-end close process, monthly reporting and variance analysis, and quarterly Call Reports. Perform reconciliations of bank accounts and general ledger accounts in accordance with MCU policies and procedures and prescribed timelines. Review and reconcile suspense accounts and monitor closely for aged items. Work with business partners to ensure items are addressed timely and appropriately in accordance with MCU policies and procedures. Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules in accordance with accounting policies. Working knowledge of ASC 842 (Lease Accounting). Support the monthly Allowance for Credit Losses (ACL) process, as necessary. Working knowledge of ASC 326 (CECL). Participate in the budget and forecast planning process by assisting with preparation of information and analyzing income and expense trends. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to evaluate the accounting implications of new products and services or other key initiatives. Assist business partners with the research of transaction level data to ensure items are booked timely and properly. Participate in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP. Assist in the coordination of financial audits and regulatory examinations, providing documentation and explanations as needed. Prepare budget vs. actual performance reports and provide analysis to support strategic decision-making. Assist in the implementation and maintenance of internal controls to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and mitigate financial risks. Prepare ad-hoc financial reports and analysis to support strategic decision-making. Provide all deliverables in accordance with prescribed timelines. Perform other related duties as requested and special projects as assigned. Requirements: Bachelor's degree in finance, Accounting, or a related field; MBA or CPA preferred. 5+ years of experience in accounting. A minimum of 2 years in an accounting position at a similarly sized bank or credit union is preferred. In-depth knowledge of GAAP, regulatory compliance, and financial reporting requirements for banks. Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to analyze complex financial data and draw actionable insights. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to understand accounting concepts and work independently on accounting related assignments. Strong collaboration skills, with the desire to support peers and drive results across the organization. Proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Excel; experience with general ledger systems such as Prologue and banking systems such as Symitar core banking platform is a plus. Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and integrity in financial reporting. Ability to perform in a high-volume environment and meet deadlines while maintaining exceptional attention to detail. Technologically proficient.
