The Senior Accountant (SafePort) will assist with the effective setup of accounting and financial reporting functions to meet the needs of the organization. The individual in this position will work with a dynamic team of dedicated professionals who are committed to excellence in fiduciary and financial accountability and reporting. Primary responsibilities include monthly accounting, accounts payable, and financial reporting. The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of GAAP and possibly some knowledge of statutory accounting principles ( STAT ), as well as financial policies and controls, attention to detail, and the ability to deliver work products with a high level of accuracy while consistently meeting related deadlines.Essential Functions
- Set up work papers, including for journal entries, reconciliations, and analytics
- Prepare monthly journal entries, reconciliations, intercompany balancing, and assist with multi-company consolidation
- Accounting/accounts payable duties, such as system invoice entry/review, cash preparation and month end journal entries and bank reconciliations, lead ACH enrollment and entry into system
- Prepare and maintain monthly accounting support work-papers
- Perform account and variance analysis as requested by management
- Assist with statutory regulatory filings, including premium tax and other state required regulatory filings
- Support the preparation of supplemental financial exhibits and various other accounting statements and reports
- Support the preparation of NAIC quarterly and annual financial reports
- Help prepare information for independent auditors and tax preparers
- May perform other related duties and special projects as assigned or requested
Minimum Requirements Education, training, and experience:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting or business-related field and/or equivalent combination of High School Diploma/GED, training and work experience
- Minimum 2 - 3 years of experience in accounting role
- Experience in insurance with statutory accounting experience
- Certified Public Accountant or CPA candidate
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- General understanding of GAAP policies and internal controls
- Knowledge of Microsoft office suite with an emphasis on Excel skills
- Ability to meet strict deadlines, both independently and as part of a team
- Detail-oriented and the ability to deliver work products with a high degree of accuracy
- Strong verbal and written skills, and the ability to convey complex information Available to work across time zones with flexibility to follow up on items outside of business hours, including weekends
- Ability to handle multiple tasks with accuracy, able to prioritize effectively and meet strict deadlines, both independently and as part of a team
