Position Description:

Research, develop, and test materials used in various components and systems within fluid handling equipment, including ceramics, coatings, polymers, metals, and other non-metals. Focus on improved performance, simplified products, reduced costs, and sustainability. Perform testing and validation of materials, including material characterization and functional product testing. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to innovate and optimize materials for various applications, ensuring they meet the required standards and specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

· Conduct research and development on new materials and material processes to obtain information that could be used to develop new technologies, new products, or enhance existing products.

· Characterize material properties using techniques such as microscopy, spectroscopy, and mechanical testing. Including tribological properties such as friction, wear, and lubrication, for mechanical sealing and bearing applications.

· Investigate and resolve material-related issues in manufacturing and product development.

· Collaborate with engineering teams to select appropriate materials for specific applications, provide guidance and training to engineers on material science principles and best practices.

· Develop and implement material testing protocols and standards.

· Analyze data and prepare technical reports and presentations.

· Stay updated with the latest advancements in material science and apply them to current projects.

· Consult with customers to determine how materials can be tailored to suit their needs.

· Visit material suppliers and end users of products to gather specific material and application information.

· Collaborate with Universities and National labs.

· Assist in the preparation and filing of patents related to new materials and technologies developed.

· Develop quality control protocols for material production and ensure compliance with quality standards.

· Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations..

Requirements:

· PhD / Master's Degree in Material Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent experience.

· Proven experience in material research and development

· Relevant professional certifications such as Professional Engineer (PE) or certifications from materials science societies (e.g., ASM International).

· Strong knowledge of material characterization techniques and equipment.

· Experience with tribology, corrosion, and other material degradation phenomena.

· Proficiency in data analysis and interpretation.

· Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

· Strong communication and teamwork skills.

· Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

· Experience with ceramic or polymer manufacturing.

Preferred Skills:

· Knowledge of advanced tribological materials such as coatings, composites, or nanomaterials.

· Knowledge of advanced polymer materials such as elastomers for static and dynamic sealing applications.

· Knowledge of eco-friendly materials and sustainable manufacturing processes.

· Experience with additive manufacturing and other advanced manufacturing technologies.

· Experience with research laboratory equipment and environments.

· Project management, leadership, and group experience.

· Rotating equipment experience
