Kao Specialties Americas LLC (KSA) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Kao Corporation, Tokyo, Japan. KSA is a specialty chemical manufacturing company with three major business segments (1) Oleo Chemicals, (2) Performance Chemicals, and (3) Specialty Chemicals including Imaging Materials and Aroma Chemicals. The Senior Analytical Chemist is responsible for providing non-routine analytical testing and researching new method development and validation. This position supports the activities of Sales, Quality Control, R&D, and production when testing is required that is not part of the established QC testing repertoire. This position will expand the KSA analytical testing portfolio through the development and validation of new methods.

Responsibilities

  • Practical and theoretical understanding of modern analytical techniques and instrumentation with an emphasis on chromatography methods (HPLC, GC, SEC) also including spectroscopy (FT-IR, UV-Vis, NMR) with a willingness to develop expertise in other techniques as needed.
  • Independently perform analytical testing of a chemical and/or physical nature on various samples.
  • Develop and/or evaluate methods of analysis for existing products and new R&D formulations.
  • Author analytical procedures, SOPs, validation documents, and other requested reports.
  • For research projects, interpret data, draw conclusions, and provide recommendations based on the data using statistical analysis.
  • Serve as a primary trainer for the transfer of analytical methods required for production to the Quality Control stream.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain instruments and equipment; conduct diagnostic tests on equipment as necessary; oversee the department's preventive maintenance program.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and 4 plus years of analytical chemistry experience. Masters or PhD in Analytical Chemistry is strongly preferred.
  • Strong technical background with analytical instrumentation.
  • Proven experience with the development, optimization, and validation of analytical methods.
  • Solid track record in delivering high-quality outputs to agreed deadlines.
  • Extensive experience using Microsoft Office software.
