Job Description:

We are currently seeking a highly skilled Senior Analytics Engineer to join our dynamic team at Robert Walters to support a Data Strategy team at a leading reinsurance brokerage. The Senior Analytics Engineer bridges data engineering and data science, where expertise lies in the knowledge of the underlying data and its analysis, transformation, and visualization. This position directs how data will be used in pipelining, applications, decision-making, and machine-learning models while sharing responsibilities with product managers in direct customer engagement.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with stakeholders: You will work closely with stakeholders to understand their data challenges and business needs, driving the integration and adoption of our data products.
  • Conduct deep data analysis: You will conduct exploratory data analysis to gain a comprehensive understanding of our business, offering conclusions and recommendations that demonstrate high-level critical thinking.
  • Analyze data trends: You will critically analyze data and identify trends, such as user behavior patterns, to inform product improvements. Additionally, you will possess a basic understanding of product design and user experience.
  • Collaborate with development teams and product managers: You will work collaboratively with development teams and product managers to design and implement new features based on user feedback.
  • Stay updated on analytics technology: You will remain up-to-date on the latest analytics technology innovations and identify how they can create business value.

Requirements:

  • Extensive experience: You have at least five years of experience as a data analyst or analytics engineer.
  • Data modeling expertise: You have at least two years of experience with data modeling, preferably using dbt.
  • Proficiency in SQL and Python: You possess strong proficiency in SQL and Python, enabling you to work with data effectively.
  • Knowledge of ETL/ELT and REST API principles: You have a working knowledge of ETL/ELT and REST API principles, as well as schema design across source systems, data lakes, and dashboards.
  • Familiarity with machine learning: You are familiar with machine learning, particularly natural language processing.
  • Experience with cloud data platforms: You have experience working with cloud data platforms such as Azure Data Lake, Databricks, or other equivalent MPP tools like Snowflake or BigQuery.
  • Bachelor's degree: A bachelor's degree in a technical and quantitative discipline is required.
  • Familiarity with data reporting and visualization tools: You are familiar with data reporting and visualization tools such as PowerBI, Tableau, or Looker.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience on high-performing data teams: Previous experience on a high-performing data team at a technology, consulting, or start-up company is highly desirable.
  • Experience delivering client-facing analytic tools or applications: Having experience in delivering client-facing analytic tools or applications is a plus.
  • Insurance knowledge: While not required, having insurance knowledge or a strong interest in building insurance domain knowledge will be advantageous.
