Overview

The Senior HIM Epic Application coordinator is responsible for analyzing the business needs, defining requirements, developing solutions, implementing systems, and managing installed applications in support of the Health Information Department at Nationwide Children's Hospital. The Senior HIM Epic Application coordinator will have a thorough understanding of the HIM Epic applications and database configuration in a complex client/server architecture. A Senior HIM application coordinator provides mentoring and leadership for the Applications team through a thorough knowledge of business and healthcare operations and supporting technology, and project management.

Responsibilities
  • Systems Analysis and Support
    • Plans, designs, develops, tests, implements, and supports information systems to meet organizational needs.
    • Provides customer service to define business needs and translate those needs into system functionality requirements.
    • Provides analysis on system design specifications and system/product evaluation.
    • Provides system coding and programming as required.
    • Develops and implements data queries and reports as needed.
    • Creates and maintains high quality system, report, and interface test scripts.
    • Assures data integrity and system survivability by developing and maintaining Disaster Recovery plans for the identity management systems.
    • Develops system documentation.
    • Provides effective user training and support.
    • Provides troubleshooting, problem analysis, debugging, and resolution of assigned system issues.
    • Performs system updates, patches, service releases, and upgrades as needed.
  • IS Operational Support
    • Utilizes IS Operational support systems to include the Help Desk, Change Control, Problem Management, source and version control, and other systems as required.
    • Builds and maintains vendor relationships to ensure products and/or services meet the business needs and objectives of the Hospital.
    • Works to minimize systems outages and the effects of outages on Hospital users.
    • Sets the example for providing fiscal responsibility in the use of Hospital resources.
  • Project Management
    • Applies project management principles, industry best practices, and IS Project Management Office (PMO) methodologies to all assigned projects.
    • Leads teams on large, complex projects involving cross-functional departments.
    • Leads project scope development, project status reporting, schedules project execution, manages vendor performance and customer expectations.
    • Interacts closely with the PMO for planning and status reporting.
  • Information Assurance
    • Knowledgeable of and adheres to Nationwide Children's Hospital policies, processes, procedures, standards, and guidelines governing privacy, security, and disaster recovery/business continuity.
    • Develops, implements, and/or maintains systems following IS Information Assurance policies.
    • Actively protects sensitive, classified, and confidential information.
  • Teamwork, Collaboration, Professionalism, and Leadership
    • Sets the example and provides leadership when working with other IS staff.
    • Develops and maintains expert level knowledge and skills in technical and professional areas.
    • Mentors and trains IS staff members in areas of specialty.

  • Qualifications

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

    At least 7 years experience providing systems analysis support required.

    Experience in health care environments preferred.

    Bachelor Degree in related Computer Science areas or equivalent experience required.

    Ability to work flexible schedules to meet job requirements; requires occasional after-hours support and overnight travel.

    MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    Sitting, Stooping, Standing, Talking on the phone or in person, Typing on a keyboard, Walking.

    Position requires the ability to interact effectively with customers and information systems personnel across the organization.
