Position Type: HIGH SCHOOL TEACHING/JROTCDate Posted: 7/17/2024Location: Broadmoor HighClosing Date: 10-31-2024Job Title: Senior Army Instructor Reports To: Immediate Supervisor Prepared By: The Division of Human Resources Board Approved Date: Salary Range: TE108 to TI112 $68,548 to $125,050 Summary: The Senior Army Instructor (SAI) is the department chairperson and chief instructor of the JROTC unit. The SAI is responsible for the overall management of the JROTC unit at the school and maintaining good relations with school authorities. The SAI, in coordination with the senior school official, will establish standard operating procedures relating to the administration, control, and training of JROTC cadets. These procedures will cover the appointment, promotion, and demotion of Cadet Officers and noncommissioned officers. The SOP must be approved by the senior school official. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Acts as Department chair and chief instructor.
  • Organizes, develops, and administers the JROTC Program.
  • Represent the school in matters pertaining to the Department of the Army and the JROTC Program. Serve as a strong advocate for the JROTC Program at the District and State level.
  • Ensures, on behalf of the school, district and the Army that the JROTC program is administered in accordance with law, regulations, and policies.
  • Conducts initial and semi-annual performance counseling on Army Instructors.
  • Prepares weekly training schedules.
  • Conducts a public affairs effort in the local area middle and elementary schools, among school and community officials, civic group, parent teacher groups and other individuals or groups, designed to further the understanding of JROTC, the school and the Army.
  • Enrolls students in JROTC and supports school officials while executing the curriculum and the integrated extra-curricular activities
  • Maintains contact with parents of all Cadets experiencing academic or behavioral problems.
  • Ensures JROTC unit areas are neat and orderly; current chain of command photos, Cadet Creed, core abilities and mission statement are present; and all sensitive items are secured.
  • Ensures instructors share teaching responsibilities. No instructor is exempt from teaching a fair share of the LET POI.
  • Instructors should teach by expertise and preference in subject areas, rather than strictly by LET levels.
  • All instructors (SAI/AIs) are responsible for teaching the JROTC curriculum.
  • Maintains a current copy of DA Form 3126 (Application and Contract for Establishment of a JROTC Unit), a completed service learning checklist/rubric, a current copy of a bond/insurance certificate, and required JUMS reports.
  • Maintains accountability of all equipment, IAW AR 710-2, including items requiring formal accountability (i.e. air rifles, drill rifles), informal accountability (i.e.,clothing) and durable items costing $5000.00 or less (i.e., automation, computers, audiovisual), but still requiring property accountability.
  • Request curriculum materials and distribute.
  • Submits required reports in a timely manner.
  • Establishes, instills and ensures enforcement of program standards.
  • Observe both the military and school chain of command.
  • Abides by U.S. Army rules and regulations specifically Chapter 4, Military Discipline and Conduct, AR 600-2, Army Command Policy.
Other Duties: Other duties as assigned that are related to the functions of the position. Essential Functions/Qualifications/Requirements: Education and Experience: The applicant must be interviewed and approved by the U.S. Army Cadet Command. Must be a retired Army Commissioned Officer in the rank of Captain (0-3) thru Colonel (0-6). Must meet all Cadet Command eligibility and qualification standards and be Cadet Command certified as a JROTC Instructor. Must complete the JROTC Five-Step instructor training plan as prescribed in paragraph 8-4, Cadet Command Regulation 145-2. A baccalaureate degree is required. The SAI must meet and continue to demonstrate the requirements as outlined in CCR 145-2, paragraph 4-4f-o.
