About the Internal Audit Group at American Express

Our Internal Audit Group is a worldwide function with 300+ team members and offices across nine countries within American Express. Our mission is to protect and enhance organizational value by providing independent, objective, risk-based assurance, advisory services and to influence the way the company manages risk.

We are committed to growing our audit staff significantly as we continue to expand and enhance the Internal Audit Group. Our assurance and risk professionals have diverse backgrounds including internal controls, consumer compliance, technology, operational risk, financial accounting, data analytics, and banking operations. Our audit teams align to key risk areas and business units to ensure IAG can provide comprehensive and risk-based audit coverage. In addition, IAG has a Professional Practices group responsible for managing audit operations, quality, and standards; regulatory relations; reporting; training and professional development; and key internal capabilities and technologies.

About the Role:

Execute the Internal Audit Group's (IAG) established audit methodology with focus on people, legal, brand/ reputation, and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) risks. This will include testing of operational, technology and application, and regulatory compliance processes and controls primarily within corporate functions such as Colleague Experience Group (formerly Human Resources), General Counsel's Office, Corporate Affairs & Communication, and Global Advertising & Brand Management.

* Assist team leaders and Senior Managers/Managers in the execution of assigned audit tasks in line with IAG methodology, budgets and deadlines for all phases of the audit including planning, fieldwork, reporting and wrap-up;

* Document processes under review, execute audit tests (including technology control tests) competently in accordance with policies and procedures;

* Collaborate with audit teams to understand the data behind key processes, risk and controls to develop analytic control tests and analyze and interpret their results;

* As a self-starter, leverage passion for continuous innovation to drive organizational improvements and impacts;

* Work with unstructured tasks / risks and provide a structured output;

* Interview client personnel of all levels to document, understand, and assess relevant risks and controls;

* Assist audit management with routine client status meetings, audit requests, and other administrative tasks;

* Assist in documentation and evaluation of audit observations, findings, and subsequent validation of actions taken by management to address such findings;

* Utilize department and company tools in a proficient manner; and

* Maintain internal audit competency through ongoing professional development.

Minimum Qualifications

* Bachelor of Art/Science or equivalent degree;

* 2+ years demonstrated experience and competency in the assessment of risks and controls;

* Strong written and verbal communication skills;

* Demonstrated integrity, innovation, teamwork, and excellence;

* Ability to break-down a complex problem into components, including process, risk, and control knowledge;

* Ability to communicate data analysis, issues, and control recommendations with transparency, integrity, storytelling, and visualization skills;

* Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, to execute deliverables; and

Preferred Qualifications

* 3+ years of relevant experience

* Experience with technology control testing including automated processing, interface inputs, reports, application security, business continuity and third parties;

* Advanced degree in Accounting, Analytics, or another related field

* Relevant audit and risk professional certification(s) (CIA, CRMC, CISA, CISM, CISSP)

* Interest in working with data, interpreting results, analytic best practices and experience with data analytics tools and data visualization

* Familiarity with Tableau, Microsoft Access, SQL, Power BI, Python, SAS, Hive and/or Spark.

Salary Range: $55,000.00 to $105,000.00 annually + bonus + benefits
