This position is also responsible for a variety of inspections as needed involving mechanical, plumbing, industrial, and residential type construction. Examples of Duties
Prepares or recommends work assignments for inspectors.Performs, and assists staff in the performance of, field inspections of new, remodeled, and other commercial, industrial, and residential buildings to ensure compliance with regulations, permits, and zoning requirements; ensures compliance with applicable building, electrical, mechanical, pollution, and plumbing codes. Reviews construction plans to ensure code compliance; issues or denies building permits.Prepares and maintains construction and building inspection results, files, and logs; prepares related reports.Receives and responds to questions and/or complaints from a variety of individuals and/or businesses regarding codes and regulations, inspection schedules, inspection results, and code compliance requirements.Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.Examples of duties include, but are not limited to:
Consult with architects, engineers, and contractors as well as City staff from various departments including community standards, planning, and engineering, regarding Building Code and City ordinance compliance for various types of construction projects.Review permit applications to ensure accuracy, they correctly reflect anticipated work, and are issued in a timely manner.Identify necessary plan review corrections and recommend changes to applicant during commercial plan review process, for both building and mechanical plans, to ensure code and city ordinance compliance.Perform various field inspections, for all types of permits issued by the Building Inspections Department, to ensure codes and/or ordinances are compliant, including building, mechanical, and plumbing inspections for commercial, industrial, and residential projects. Must be able to make field decisions based on evaluating situations and conditions to ensure the construction process adheres to code requirements and City ordinances.Record accurate and detailed daily records of inspection activities such as correction notices.Using HVAC experience, educate/train other inspectors while becoming primary mechanical plan reviewer and inspector.Respond in a prompt, positive, and courteous manner through emails, over the phone, and in-person to inquiries from architects, designers, engineers, developers, contractors, homeowners, and others regarding plumbing and building codes, related ordinances, policies, and procedures.These examples are intended only as illustrations of various types of work performed, and are not necessarily all inclusive. Specific regulations apply. LONG-TERM DISABILITYAll active full-time employees who work 40 hours a week are eligible to participate in the long-term disability (LTD) plan. RETIREMENTRetirement benefits are those of a coordinated plan which combines the benefits of the Public Employees Retirement Association (PERA) with regular Social Security benefits. The employee contributes 6.50% of total annual earnings to PERA. The city contributes 7.50% of the employee's annual earnings to PERA.
