The Department of Conservation and Development (DCD) is seeking to fill two (2) vacancies in the classification of Senior Building Plan Checker.

The Senior Building Plan Checker, under direction, is responsible for performing a variety of duties which include reviewing building plans and applications and providing lead direction to other Building Plan Checkers.

* Documenting your work in the County's automated permitting system
* Directing and training lower-level Plan Checker staff

The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future openings for up to 6 months.
Certification: Possession of a Building Plans Examiner Certificate issued by the International Code Council (ICC) or equivalent.
Experience: Three (3) years of full-time experience in a position comparable to a Building Plan Checker in a California agency issuing building permits with a minimum of one (1) year experience in a position comparable to a Building Plan Checker II in a California public agency reviewing building plans and applications for compliance with established codes, laws, regulations, and policies.
Substitution: An Associate of Arts Degree or a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college with a major in construction technology or closely related field may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience.
Desirable Qualifications:
* Experience applying building code requirements to complex residential and commercial construction projects
* Comfortable working with a diverse group of professional colleagues and customers
* Familiarity with Accela Automation permit tracking software
* Possession of Certified Access Specialist (CASP) certification
* Experience working in construction
* Educational background in architecture or related field
* Customer service experience
1. Application Filing and Evaluation: Applicants will be required to complete a supplemental questionnaire at the time of application, applications will be evaluated to determine which candidates will move forward in the next phase of the recruitment process.
2. Online Virtual Interview: Candidates who possess the minimum qualifications will be invited to participate in an online interview. In the oral interview, candidates must achieve an average passing score of 70% or higher on each of the oral interview competencies, as well as an overall passing score of 70% of higher. The interview will measure candidates' competencies as they relate to the Senior Building Plan Checker position. These may include, but are not limited to: Analyzing & Interpreting Data, Critical Thinking, Professional & Technical Expertise, Attention to Detail, and Displaying Ownership and Accountability (Weighted 100%).
