Performs carpentry and masonry work by constructing, fabricating, building, and repairing furniture, fixtures, and accessories in city facilities in accordance with local building codes to maintain facilities safe, comfortable, and presentable.

Overview

The Senior Carpenter-Parks Maintenance performs carpentry and masonry work by constructing, fabricating, building, and repairing furniture, fixtures, and accessories in city facilities in accordance with local building codes.

Essential Functions

1 Performs carpentry, masonry, construction, and repair work by framing, installing sheet rock, hanging wallpaper, installing carpet, tile, hardwood, stone-marble, and slate; responds to various departmental requests for carpentry and related work.

2 Coordinates, facilitates, and organizes job activities with other trades including plumbing, electrical, painting, and HVAC to respond to emergencies after hours or on weekends and holidays; ensure jobs are performed in priority order.

3 Assists in the construction of buildings, sun decks, chain link fences, bridges, and sidewalks by providing support to other division staff to ensure project completion.

4 Performs preventive maintenance of all structural elements of city owned buildings such as overhead doors, security locks and building hardware to ensure optimum functioning and presentable appearance.

5 Performs flooring repairs and replacements, installation, wood, carpet, vinyl, tile, ceramic tile to ensure a safe floor surface; repairs, replaces, builds counter tops, cabinets, and park signs.

6 Prepares job cost estimates, designs drawings, selects and orders necessary materials for repair or construction plan; supplies inventory to provide information to department and secure project funding.

7 Drives to and from jobs delivering materials to job site to ensure job completion; maintains inventory of shop supplies and tools.

8 Performs any and all other work as required or assigned.

Knowledge and Skills

1 Knowledge of carpentry trade methods, practices, and techniques.

2 Knowledge of use of various hand tools and measuring instruments, and power driven equipment.

3 Knowledge of the structures, fixtures, and application of wood, plywood, and wallboard.

4 Knowledge and understanding of safety procedures.

5 Knowledge of city codes as it relates to the carpentry trade.

6 Knowledge of basic masonry, plumbing and concrete work.

7 Reading and interpreting mechanical manuals and schematics.

8 Ability to perform labor for extended periods of time.

9 Communicating orally and in writing.

10 Establishing and maintaining strong relationships.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience

4 years in the carpentry trade

Licenses and Certifications

Texas Driver's License

Education

High School Diploma, GED

Salary Range

$22.75 - $26.15
