On the back of recent research breakthroughs, our client, the leading organization in silicon anode development, have secured funding both in investment and government contracts, as well as successfully deploying their product into commercial partnerships.
As such, they are looking for experienced and ambitious battery development engineers to join their world class R&D team. In the role you will be leading the development of Li-ion cells incorporating silicon oxide powder for a variety of commercial applications
This is an ideal role if you have a strong understanding of battery materials and cell design, and how changes in these can affect full cell performances when developing towards customer solutions.
What you will be doing
- Lead materials screening, electrode formulation and design down-selection w/r/t to specific customer performance objectives
- Drive cross-functional collaboration between the material development and materials scaling teams on critical points of interaction
- Establish benchmarks and define milestones for a gated product development process
- Lead failure analysis efforts. Identify and support the implement of appropriate corrective actions
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior scientists and engineers
Requirements
- 10 years experience combination of relevant academic and commercial experience (PhD degree or equivalent in Chemistry, Materials Chemistry, Materials Science & Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Physics with at least 5 years related experience)
- Deep understanding of Li-ion battery materials, cell requirements and cell design (pouch and cylindrical)
- Significant experience working with Silicon-based battery materials and an advanced understanding of the challenges Si-based materials pose in battery developments
- Deep understanding of electrochemistry as related to battery technology developments
- Expertise in analyzing and interpreting the electrochemical, thermal and mechanical signals associated with Li-ion battery performance/behavior
- Familiarity with electrolyte design and cell formation
- Experience mentoring and managing more junior researchers
- Experience developing materials, assembly and cell specifications
Desirables
- Experience with cell fabrication (slurry processing, coating, etc.)
- Experience developing DFMEAs and supporting the development of PFMEAs
- Familiarity with multi-physics modeling and cell modelling
