GENERAL NATURE OF WORK: This position performs administrative and supervisory work in planning, directing, and coordinating the activities, personnel, and resources of the City of Beavercreek Senior Center in the Parks, Recreation, and Culture Division. This position is responsible for developing recreational programs and activities for the Senior Center. Duties are performed under the direction of the Parks Director and Assistant Parks Director.EQUIPMENT & JOB LOCATION: This position requires thorough knowledge of office and recreation equipment, including computer, telephone, general office equipment, and transportation vehicles. The primary work site is the Beavercreek Senior Center.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Any one position may not include all of the duties listed nor do the listed examples include all duties which may be found in all positions in this class.
- Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Beavercreek Senior Center.
- Attends various/relevant meetings and events as necessary, and makes presentations to interested groups.
- Plans, develops, implements, schedules, and administers senior programming while ensuring the overall mission, vision and values of the Parks Division are followed.
- Prepares the annual budget for senior programs and the Senior Center.
- Prepares and submits various reports and records regarding Senior Center functions to demonstrate compliance with a variety of state and federal regulations.
- Prepares monthly and annual reports on program areas of responsibility.
- Interviews, selects, trains, evaluates, schedules, and supervises full- and part-time Senior Center staff, as well as volunteers. Conducts orientations for new staff and volunteers.
- Enforces personnel policies and procedures for Senior Center staff and volunteers. Enforces disciplinary measures when necessary.
- Consults with the Senior Center Advisory Board concerning the development and evaluation of programs, activities, and facilities.
- Serves as liaison between the Senior Center and the Greene County Council on Aging.
- Develops and coordinates community outreach programs with other local programs and agencies.
- Seeks out financial gifts, grants, and other revenue sources for Senior Center projects and programs.
- Responsible for the purchase of equipment and supplies for programs and services, including staffing, equipment, supplies, and promotional materials.
- Writes and prepares grant applications and manages levy and grant funds, including preparing required grant reports, i.e., Greene County Council on Aging, Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission, Ohio Department of Transportation, etc.
- Performs onsite program inspections and evaluations to ensure compliance with program and safety policies and procedures.
- Responsible for the regular inspection and oversight of transportation vehicles and the Senior Center transportation program, including staff and volunteer management, route scheduling, and coordination of vehicle maintenance.
- Responsible for the general oversight of the Senior Center facility maintenance, including coordination of preventative and reactive maintenance activities. Areas include but are not limited to fitness room, recreation areas, kitchen, parking lot and grounds.
- Makes recommendations and ensures compliance with the Americans with Disability Act (ADA). Regularly reviews and implements ADA Transition Plan.
- Reviews and submits staff payroll information. Approves and coordinates staff schedules.
- Responsible for creating and updating Standard Operating Procedures for the Senior Center, 5-year Capital Plan, goals and objectives, monthly departmental reports, request for proposals, and records retention program.
ADDITIONAL EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:
- Responds to comments and complaints from citizens and members.
- Performs basic maintenance and upkeep at the Senior Center such as spot cleaning, replacing light bulbs, rearranging furniture for programs and events, etc.
- Investigates incidents, accidents and safety concerns, and implements corrective actions.
- Performs any and all other duties as assigned.

- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City officials, other City employees, the general public, and senior adults.
- Thorough knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and ordinances, particularly those pertaining to the care of senior adults.
- Thorough knowledge of the needs of the aging population.
- Thorough knowledge of the objectives and principles of senior programming, including a thorough understanding of the activities which comprise a senior program.
- Thorough knowledge of the facilities and equipment needed in planning senior programming activities.
- Thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and corresponding safety precautions necessary for the safe performance of assigned duties.
- Skill in dealing firmly, tactfully, and courteously with the general public and senior adults.
- Ability to handle confidential information.
- Ability to work under the direction of the Parks Director and Assistant Parks Director.
DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in gerontology, recreation administration, or a related field, supplemented by some progressively responsible supervisory experience in the recreation or gerontology field.
- Any combination of training and experience which provides the desired knowledge, skills, and abilities may be substituted for the required education and experience requirements.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must maintain a valid Ohio Driver's License.
- Ability to work other than normal working hours and various shifts as necessary.
- Ability to obtain and maintain basic First Aid and CPR training certification. CPR and First Aid Instructor certification is preferred.
- Designation as a Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) is preferred.
- Sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight up to fifty (50) pounds; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movements and fine coordination, including use of a computer keyboard; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
