The Florida Department of Health (DOH) is responsible for the health and safety of all citizens and visitors to the state. As a public health agency, the Florida Department of Health must monitor the health status of Floridians, diagnose, and investigate health problems, and mobilize local communities to address health-related issues. The Florida Department of Health develops policies and plans that support health goals, enforce laws and regulations that protect the health of all residents and visitors, and link people to needed health care services. The Florida Department of Health also provides specialized assistance to pregnant women, infants, and children with special health care needs, regulates health care practitioners, and provides medical disability determinations.
Senior Clerk:
This position works for the Disease Control Division in the STD Program. This entry level administrative position is responsible for dealing directly with the public, answering questions over the phone, and entering demographic & medical data into a computer database. Strong communication skills are a must, as this position is required to provide program information, answer client questions, and explain policies. This position may also be required to schedule/reschedule appointments and file client records. In addition, when necessary, this position serves as a cashier back up, collecting fees, issuing receipts and producing cash drawer report at the end of the day. This position requires face to face and phone interaction with clients with different backgrounds. Applicant should be detail-oriented and able to multi-task, bilingual English/Spanish is a plus
Your Specific Responsibilities:
+ Checks clients in upon arriving at the STD clinic.
+ Collects and enters client demographic data and medical information into the data system.
+ Scans all required documentation into the system.
+ Processes clients through the system and instructs on program procedures, hours of operation, and rights and obligations.
+ Provides clients with appropriate forms and instruction on completing when necessary.
+ Offer the client a customer satisfaction survey to fill out.
+ Schedules appointments for potential participants or walk-ins.
+ Verify insurance and financial (income verification via WAGES/AWI) data is entered into HMS.
+ Collects necessary fees as appropriate and accurately records in HMS.
+ Ensuring accurate completion and timely submission of all administrative reports required, including People First, travel, HMS, and customer surveys.
+ Attends meetings, traveling to other clinics or offices, and performing other duties as assigned by supervisor.
+ Interact with patients from different cultures and languages.
+ Facilitates translations for English to Spanish and vice versa within a clinical setting or out in the field as needed.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
+ Knowledge and use of personal computer and software to include but not limited to Microsoft Word and Windows.
+ Ability to communicate effectively in English and Spanish.
+ Ability to actively listen to others.
+ Knowledge of billing procedures to all sources (Medicaid, Medicare, HMO etc.) including work associated with working in the clinic cashiering position. This knowledge will also include understanding of the HCHD's fee schedule and reimbursement knowledge.
Qualifications:
Minimum:
+ 1 years of customer service experience in fast paced environment
+ 1 year of experience in data entry
+ 1 year of experience in an office/clinic environment providing office administrative support (e.g., client registration, cashier, answering telephones, data entry.

+ Bilingual English/Spanish/Haitian Creole
