SERVICE LINE OVERVIEW Houston Water

Houston Water has over 1800 employees and is made up of Drinking Water Operations, Planning, Regulatory Compliance, Resources and Client Services, and Wastewater Operations. Our mission is to provide water to the City of Houston with 100% customer satisfaction and 100% employee satisfaction. This includes the production and distribution of over 146 billion gallons of water per year and the treatment of over 90 billion gallons per year of wastewater. That is enough to fill the Astrodome four times per day with fresh water and over twice per day with wastewater.

POSITION OVERVIEW Senior Communications Specialist

The Resources & Client Services Branch of Houston Water is seeking a Sr. Communications Specialist to support the branch's Internal Communication and Compliance Section. The Communications Specialist will perform the duties outlined below to help ensure the Service Line is functioning at optimal efficiency in delivering products/services per customers' expectations. The person in this role will be responsible for providing confidentiality, professionalism, and quality customer service.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBLITIES

* Creation and development of weekly newsletters consisting of priority and preferred information for all Houston Water employees.

* Create and track data for various reports to include but are not limited to TCEQ Water and Wastewater Licenses, Defensive Driving Certifications, and NIMS certification.

* Create custom reports and collecting data related to key performance indicators. Analyze data and current processes for process improvement processes.

* Draft standard operating procedures, corresponding process maps, and business development reports.

* Develop and coordinate employee engagement initiatives such as CMC.

* Schedule and track all training, including mandatory compliance and safety training

* Navigating and reporting course enrollment and completion from the Learning Management System.

* Provide backup for reviewing and gatekeeping all messages, tasks, and documents distributed to the field by thoroughly reviewing for content, structure, spelling, and grammar. Provide secondary support to processing citizen concerns such as TPIAs, Mayor's Request, 311 and any additional concerns.

* Perform miscellaneous duties and requirements related to training, operations, and communication.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This position may require lifting of moderately heavy items (up to 40 pounds) and/or long periods of field work.

This is a Houston Public Works Department Emergency Management position at the Tier III Level.EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Requires a Bachelor's degree in Art, Design, Communications, Media Relations, English, or a field related to the work being performed.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Six months of experience in media, public relations, art or field related to the work being performed are required.

Directly related professional experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

NonePreference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the

qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.SELECTION/SKILLS TESTS REQUIRED: None

SALARY INFORMATION

Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.
