VDOT Inspectors are expected to consistently promote open communication, partnering and excellent construction management to obtain on-time, on-budget projects with high quality and safety. Incumbents ensure contractor compliance through review, interpretation and enforcement of plans and contract documents, monitoring and inspecting field work efficiently and in a timely manner; and preparation of thorough, accurate project documentation.This position requires physically demanding work in field conditions. Frequent climbing, crawling, stooping, lifting up to 50 pounds, working at heights, in confined spaces and traversing embankments is required.Minimum QualificationsExperience with construction methods, materials, equipment, standards, specifications and terminologyExperience applying state and federal safety, environmental, and EEO/DB guidelines and regulations related to transportation constructionKnowledge of mathematics including algebra, geometry, and trigonometryAbility to apply mathematical formulas and engineering principles to determine field adjustments to construction plansAbility to read, interpret/analyze roadway, structure and bridge plans, construction contracts, and other project management documentsAbility to prepare reports, enter data, update and maintain filesAbility to work independently and oversee the work of othersAbility to communicate effectively orally and in writingSkill in the use of engineering and testing equipment and computer software applicationsAbility to obtain certifications in concrete/asphalt-field, soil compaction, nuclear safety, aggregates, guardrail installation, pavement markings, First Aid, CPR, flagging, work zone safety, storm water inspector, erosion and sediment control, and OSHA safety training coursesValid driver's license and safety shoes requiredAdditional ConsiderationsExperience in a broad range of road and bridge construction inspection activities with a DOT or a DOT consultant inspection firmProficient in the use of MS Office and Site Manager or PlanGridExperience overseeing the work of othersPossession of current certifications and completion of fall protection and confined space trainingSpecial InstructionsYou will be provided a confirmation of receipt when your application and/or r sum is submitted successfully.
