From increasing liquified natural gas (LNG) capacities to reducing carbon emissions to helping people prepare for the realities of climate change, we are committed to building a better energy future for all.Primary PurposeOffer guidance and legal advice on all facets of the company's Ethics Compliance Helpline investigations, under the supervision of the Director and Managing Attorney for Ethics Investigations. Advise and support internal investigators and stakeholders during investigations. Oversee external counsel tasked with conducting investigations.Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides end-to-end advice and counsel to investigators, human resources, and labor relations groups on the company's Ethics Compliance Helpline investigations.
- Reviews and provides advice and counsel on investigation reports
- Assists in planning, development, and delivery of training to teams of investigators across the family of companies
- Collaborates with other investigations teams within the Sempra family of companies on investigation support, Helpline trends, and program improvements
- Conducts complex internal investigations.
- Assists in the administration of the company's Ethics Compliance Helpline.
- Assists in the preparation of presentations and updates on the company's Ethics Compliance Helpline to leadership.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QualificationsEducation
- A Juris Doctor (JD) or a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree from an accredited law school is required.
ExperienceRequired:
- 8 years of experience practicing law, with a specialization in litigation and/or labor and employment law.
- Significant experience in advising on and conducting workplace investigations.
Preferred:
- Experience within the utility industry.
- In-house experience in legal, ethics and compliance, resources, and/or audit departments.
- Must reside in Southern California or be willing to relocate upon hire.
- We offer a hybrid work environment. Although the schedule may vary, typically this will allow you to work from the office three days per week and work remotely on the remaining workdays.
Skills and Abilities
- Advanced in-depth understanding of workplace investigations, labor, and employment law.
- Advanced experience in advising on a broad spectrum of employee relations issues.
- Advanced ability to establish robust cross-departmental relationships at all levels.
- Advanced proficiency in legal analysis, strategic thinking, writing, and communication skills.
Certifications
- Admission to the California Bar and maintaining good standing status is required.
- Holding a certificate from the Association of Workplace Investigators is preferred.
