We welcome you to visit our website for more information about our company ().The successful candidate will be an integral member of a team providing legal counsel and support to Avangrid Networks' utility subsidiaries in New York utilizing global best practices. This position will provide legal support and represent the Company principally on electric and gas utility state regulatory matters, including before the New York State Public Service Commission.This position reports to the New York State Electric & Gas Corporation and Rochester Gas and Electric Corporation General Counsel and is located in Albany or Rochester, New York. There are no direct reports to this position.MAJOR ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide legal leadership and counsel on state regulatory proceedings and compliance filings, including drafting or review of filings and representing electric and gas utility companies (New York State Electric & Gas Corporation and Rochester Gas and Electric Corporation) in proceedings before state regulatory agencies in New York.Lead, oversee and provide legal advice in rate cases for New York State Electric & Gas Corporation and Rochester Gas and Electric CorporationLead, oversee and provide legal advice in regulatory dockets, review compliance filings, draft protective orders, appear at hearing and technical conferences at state regulatory agencies in New YorkAdvise senior managers within the Company on topics of concern to the electric and gas utility businessesWork alongside and become a trusted advisor to the business areas within the CompanyAssist outside counsel in the Company's defense of suits or claims and the preparation of the prosecution of the corporation's claims against othersPrepare or review contracts, purchase agreements, leases, and other legal instruments to safeguard the Company's interestsPerform research and prepare and draft necessary legal documents and correspondence; Monitor relevant regulatory proceedingsAnalyze and organize documentary evidence and develop conclusions and make recommendations to business areasGather information for annual reporting on sustainability, litigation, penalties, regulatory dockets, etc.Support the New York State Electric & Gas Corporation and Rochester Gas and Electric Corporation General Counsel and other members of the legal teamJOB REQUIREMENTS: Skills/Abilities:Strong interpersonal and presentation skills, along with the ability to communicate effectively orally or in writing to all levels of the organizationStrong negotiating skills with both legal and commercial issuesAbility to work at a fast pace and under deadlinesAbility to research key legal issues for the Companies and convey results in an effective, understandable mannerAbility to establish and maintain strong relationships within the organization's legal and regulatory departments, across all businesses, and with regulatory agenciesAbility to work independently with little or no supervisionAbility to mentor other attorneys in the department and develop best practices for the utility regulatory workExperience/Training:Experience as an attorney with a law firm, regulatory agency or in-house position preferred with at least 5 years of practical legal experience as gas and/or electric regulatory counsel, preferably with experience in New York state regulatory mattersBar Admission/Certifications: Admitted to practice in New York or able to waive in, or otherwise gain admission to the Bar of New YorkRequired Education: J.D.
