Your Part in It: Working out of our Chicago office, we are looking for our next Senior Customs Agent. Working within the Customs Department, you will play a key role in ensuring compliance with national and international customs regulations. You will manage the customs clearance process, optimize duty drawback procedures, and work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to streamline customs operations. SENIOR CUSTOMS AGENTWhat the Job Entails:
- Customs Classification: Accurately classify goods using tariff codes, ensuring compliance with national and international customs regulations.
- Regulatory Compliance: Stay updated on changes to customs laws, regulations, and policies, ensuring all activities adhere to current standards.
- Documentation & Reporting: Prepare, review, and submit required customs documentation and reports. Maintain accurate records for audits and inspections.
- Cargo Management: Oversee the customs clearance process for all cargo types, coordinating with logistics teams to ensure timely delivery and adherence to standards.
- Drawback Process Expertise: Manage and optimize the duty drawback process to recover duties and taxes, ensuring all documentation and filings meet legal requirements.
- Stakeholder Coordination: Collaborate with internal teams, customs authorities, and external partners to resolve issues, facilitate smooth operations, and enhance service quality.
- Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline customs procedures, improve classification accuracy, and enhance efficiency in cargo operations.
What We Are Looking For:
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in customs brokerage.
- A diploma or degree in international trade, logistics, or a related discipline is preferred.
- Strong expertise in tariff classification and HS code application.
- Solid understanding of customs regulations and procedures, including the duty drawback process.
- Proficiency in customs software and tools (CargoWise preferred).
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to liaise with diverse stakeholders.
- Experience in duty drawback processes is a strong asset.
- Certification in customs-related programs (e.g., CCS, CTCS) is an advantage.
