Job Description: Senior Data Scientist
Watkins is looking for skilled Senior Data Scientists to join our innovative team. In this role, you will support a federal agency by leading complex technology implementation and data analytics projects. You will also mentor team members while applying advanced data science techniques to optimize our data processes. A solid understanding of federal grant-making policies and procedures is essential for this position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead data science projects, providing mentorship and guidance to team members.
- Employ pattern-recognition techniques on large structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data sets to automate and optimize data wrangling processes, including extraction, transformation, and cleaning of data from diverse sources.
- Demonstrate expertise in data modeling, data mining, data cleansing, and segmentation techniques.
- Develop and execute complex SQL queries for data manipulation and analysis in database environments.
- Utilize programming languages and applications (e.g., Python, R, SAS, Tableau, AWS) for data manipulation and statistical analysis.
- Design and implement data models and management tools to support comprehensive end-to-end solutions.
- Work with both small and big data environments, understanding the trade-offs associated with different algorithms.
- Conduct thorough analyses, identify issues, assess risks, and facilitate effective decision-making processes.
- Prepare data and develop management tools and databases that support integrated solutions.
- Stay updated on emerging business and technical concepts relevant to data science.
Qualifications:
- Option 1: Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in data science, focusing on complex technology projects and data analytics, with a Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. A working knowledge of federal grant-making policies and procedures is required.
- Option 2: Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in data science, focusing on complex technology projects and data analytics, with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. A strong understanding of federal grant-making policies and procedures is essential.
Skills:
- Expertise in data mining, data cleansing, and segmentation techniques.
- Proficient in both small and big data environments.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical capabilities.
- Excellent written, verbal, and listening communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with strong logical thinking abilities.
- Ability to work independently and effectively lead teams.
- Capacity to work with minimal supervision.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $135,000.00 - $155,000.00 per year
