They might help to structure a complex and sensitive cross-border transaction; advise on a new product introduction; develop a training program or defuse an investor dispute. They form the second line of defense for the firm's non-financial risk management. They preserve the firm's invaluable reputation for integrity and protect the firm from sanctions with policies and procedures that meet regulatory requirements around the world. They also strive to maintain cooperative relationships with governmental policy makers and the regulatory and self-regulatory agencies that govern the firm's capital planning practice for the non-financial risk.Data & Analytics is a function in the Legal and Compliance Division responsible for designing and optimizing models, approaches and tools using advanced analytical techniques like supervised and unsupervised machine learning, Natural Language Processing (NLP) and evolving techniques like reinforcement and deep learning as well as graph analytics. The models, data analysis and tools help to evaluate losses from the operational risk, build metrics to monitor the business activities, and detect suspicious and/or illegal behaviors associated with global financial crimes. Primary Responsibilities> Develop and maintain the capital planning models to satisfy various regulatory and internal risk management requirements (CCAR/Quarterly Stress Tests). This requires thorough statistical analysis of financial data, such as regression and time series analyses, and a good understanding of the various macroeconomic or market factors that impact the evaluation of operational risk.> Support internal risk management by deriving actionable strategies from data and metrics and leveraging machine learning, NLP/AI techniques.> Write high-quality model documentation compliant with the firm's internal model governance policy, audit requirements, and the industry regulation (e.g., FRB, OCC, ECB and PRA).> Closely work with stakeholders to provide regular ongoing model performance assessments, perform periodical production runs, review analysis results with senior management and provide recommendations.> Support dashboard building and any other automation efforts.Qualifications> Master's degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., statistics, economics, finance, physics, engineering, mathematics). PhD preferred.> 5+ years experience with statistical skills such as regressions and time series analysis> Familiarity with statistical packages (e.g., MATLAB, R or Python) > Team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills> Familiarity with machine learning, natural language processing and artificial intelligence (preferred)> Hands-on experience with capital planning practice in large financial institutions (preferred)Morgan Stanley's goal is to build and maintain a workforce that is diverse in experience and background but uniform in reflecting our standards of integrity and excellence.
