Job Description:

Senior leadership opportunity with a pioneering developer of battery energy storage projects.

This is a full-time, permanent position which can be worked from any suitable northeastern US location with travel.

Role

This individual will be responsible for managing and executing regional strategy and project development within the northeast region (ISONE and NYISO). In these critical markets for the company, you will steer cross-functional teams to advance projects in various stages from prospecting to construction, and into operations. This role coordinates all aspects of regional portfolio management and accompanied approvals, including project de-risking and prioritization, project commercialization, regulatory, interconnection and permitting to deliver constructible and financeable projects. The ideal candidate will have strong project management and problem-solving skills, a refined strategy toolkit, a proven history of collaborating across company functions, stakeholder and government relation experience, and proven ability to communicate with senior executives. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Own strategy and execution in the northeast spanning greenfielding, acquisitions, and joint ventures, from inception through development completion. Support transition from NTP to construction and operations.
  • Lead northeast development team; provide active leadership and mentorship, supporting entrepreneurial environment. Support hiring as needed.
  • Support commercial team in refining and executing upon regional strategy to commercialize projects; develop strong working relationships with offtakers.
  • Lead permitting, public relations and outreach strategies and risks in coordination with internal regulatory, public relations team and external public relationships consultants in a manner which promotes external facing brand and is supportive of robust and productive stakeholder involvement.
  • Lead team in completing negotiations of site control agreements and title de-risking with support from internal legal and external real estate counsel and land contractors.
  • Lead interconnection strategy in coordination with transmission team. Manage submittal of interconnection applications, required studies, and queue positions to ensure timely execution of interconnection agreements. Support strong relationships with ISO and utility personnel.
  • Manage Northeast region administrative functions including project schedules and financials including forecasting, invoicing and cost controls.
  • Coordinate with regulatory, legal, finance, engineering, procurement, construction, commercial and executive teams to define and mitigate project risks and lead project approvals.
  • Create supporting materials and manage approval process with executive team and majority shareholder (the Investment Committee) for major development spend items and initiatives.
  • All other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Proven development experience.
  • Specific experience working in ISONE, NYISO, and/or PJM preffered.
  • College degree required, advanced degree a plus. Preference for engineering, environmental, and business-related degrees.
  • Project management including scoping projects, estimating costs, and creating schedules and budgets using management software such as excel, MS Project and Smartsheet.
  • Strong understanding of project economics and financial models. Experience presenting regional strategies and project advancement to executive team and/or investors in support of project approvals.
  • Strong knowledge of local and state-level permitting processes. Prior legal experience a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of grid-scale batteries, renewable energy, energy markets, ISO/RTO interconnection study processes, and interconnection design considerations.
  • Proven experience delivering time-pressured projects on-time and on-quality
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Mastery of Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Experience with GIS software.
  • Experience with land acquisition.
  • Previous experience managing a team of direct reports.
  • Ability to travel and possess a valid license to drive an automobile
