Position Summary:
In collaboration with the Vice President, the Senior Director of Membership Direct Response is responsible for the management and oversight of National Audubon Society's non-digital direct response efforts, including acquisition, renewals, monthly giving, appeals, and acknowledgments. The Senior Director will work closely with the Vice President and consultants to develop innovative multi-channel strategies designed to meet organizational goals.? This role leads all aspects of Direct Response fundraising including mid-level giving, from strategy to execution, and includes annual planning, annual budgeting/forecasting, fiscal reporting, vendor/consultant management, and production.? In addition, this role will support the Vice President as a leader of the Membership and Advocacy Team.
This role is hybrid, with preference to be out of our New York, NY office. We will also consider candidates who will be hybrid out of our Washington, DC office.
Compensation:
Salary range based on geo-differentials:
* $160,000-$180,000/year = Alaska, CA (not San Francisco), Connecticut, D.C., Chicago, Oyster Bay, NY
* $180,000-$195,000/year = NYC (not Oyster Bay), San Francisco, Seattle

Essential Functions
* Primary responsibility for achieving annual fundraising goals and maintain trajectory for multi-year growth plan
* Provides vision and oversight for Audubon's direct response efforts. Works closely with the Vice President and consultants to achieve organization's goals.
* In collaboration with Vice President, leads expansion of mid-level giving program
* Provides leadership and create strategies to help with the growth of sustainer giving in offline channels
* Defines target audiences, program goals, and direct response approach for all off-line and digital initiatives.
* Manages vendors/agencies, contract negotiation and execution.
* In coordination with the colleagues across Communications and Marketing and with the Government Affairs and Conservation Leadership, maintains consistent messaging throughout the organization.
* Evaluates the success and progress of direct response efforts and refines business tactics.
* Development and oversight of annual budget plans in collaboration with Vice President
* Develops and manages the Membership direct response and mid-level teams.
* Partner with Audubon staff to ensure that equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging principles are incorporated and followed in all aspects of our work.
* Other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience:
* Bachelor's degree or equivalent in marketing or a related discipline, as well as 10+ years of progressively responsible direct marketing experience, and 3 years of leadership experience.? An equivalent combination of education and work experience will also be considered.
* Proven track record in multi-channel direct response fundraising, particularly in direct mail; experience with face-to-face, telemarketing and texting a plus.
* Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills with internal and external partners a must.
* Excellent verbal and written communications skills, especially for Executive level communications.
* Data driven individual with strong analytical skills and experience working with database teams.
* Familiarity with development and management of annual budget plans including both revenue and expense management and reporting
* Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision, and to exercise good judgment all within a fast-paced environment.
* A self-starter with a keen attention to detail; must be accurate, dependable, and able to consistently meet deadlines.
* Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and marketing databases such as Salesforce and EveryAction (Bonterra) required.
* Experience developing, mentoring, and managing staff.
