Position Summary:We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Senior Director, Nursing.

In this role, the successful candidate actively demonstrates leadership ability consistent with the mission and vision of the organization. Works collaboratively with management teams at all levels throughout the organization. Plans and administers directly and through subordinate supervisory personnel, the effective management and delivery of quality patient care for all areas of responsibilities. Participates in the development and revision of nursing standards of care and the integration of such standards throughout the organization. Assists in the preparation of capital and operational budgets for assigned area, monitors compliance and identifies variances.

Job Responsibilities:

1. Management OperationPerformance Expectations:• Plans and administers directly and through subordinate supervisory personnel, the effective management and delivery of quality patient care of all areas of responsibilities• Assists in the development of capital and operating budgets of assigned service areas in collaboration with the Assistant Vice President –Chief Nurse Executive• Participates in developing departmental goals, standards of care and policies and procedures• Develops, fosters and maintains collaborative relationship with other departments and disciplines in order to ensure organizational objectives and departmental goals result in positive patient care outcome• Provides direction and mentoring of nurse manager in developing unit specific goals and approves implementation of goals as appropriate• Performs rounds of assigned units to assess activity, identify potential problems and formulate a plan that combines theoretical knowledge, clinical expertise and leadership ability

2. Management of PersonnelPerformance Expectations:• Provides the leadership necessary for nurse managers to achieve their goals and succeed within the organization• Reviews and approves annual performance appraisal for all subordinate personnel• Interviews, hires, orients and oversees the training and as necessary the discipline and discharge of subordinate management personnel• Approves recommendations of Nurse Managers and Administrative Supervisors in evaluating and disciplining employee and ensures compliance with established personnel policies• Recommends, participates in and supports the implementation of clinical, technical, departmental and organizational change• Serves as a resource professional to the Nurse Managers and Administrative Supervisors in resolving nursing care and management issues and assists in the removal of barriers to the delivery of quality patient care

3. Participates in Performance Improvement ActivitiesPerformance Expectations:• Participates and implements performance improvement efforts consistent with the hospital-wide and department specific Performance Improvement Program• Ensures and directs supervisors and managers in compliance with governmental regulatory agencies and Joint Commission Standards with specific attention to safety standards.• Promotes continuous improvement in the method of delivery of nursing care by revising and developing nursing standards, implementing appropriate corrective actions to resolve discrepancies and ensuring adherence to performance improvement projects and quality control checks.• Participates in the analysis of data for the improvement of performance• Maintains and enhances organizational relationships through the appropriate resolution of staff, patient, and visitors complaints

4. Collegiality/ProfessionalismPerformance Expectations:• Interacts with and contributes to the professional development of subordinate supervisory and managerial staff and peers• Works collaboratively to resolve patient care issues as they relate to the management of the department of nursing and the organization as a whole• Carries out responsibilities as an agent of the organization and incorporates the core values into everyday activities• Performs as a role model to subordinate personnel• Participates in and supports executives decisions

5. EducationPerformance Expectations:• Fulfills the annual requirements regarding continuing education• Maintains knowledge base through participation in learning situations such as Department Head meetings, educational programs, professional association participation, journal review or committee membershipSubordinate Management Personnel• Identifies special learning needs of management personnel and provides direction and support for improvement• Functions as a managerial and clinical resource for consultation and support by demonstrating expertise in theory and application of skills• Works collaboratively with the Nurse Manager to create an environment supportive of the delivery of quality care.

Minimum Qualifications:To qualify you must have a Advanced knowledge of nursing theory and practice acquired through completion of a Masters Degree in Nursing or Health Management FieldCurrent New York State License as a Registered Professional NurseApproximately five to seven years of progressive responsibility with current and comprehensive experience in assigned patient areas, policies and procedures and organizational managementPractice reflects customer service excellenceAnalytical ability necessary to assess and develop solutions to complex administrative situationsAnalytical ability necessary to develop budgets for assigned areas and track and identify variance.Leadership skills necessary to provide effective management of subordinate personnel, maintain a variety of internal and external contacts and successfully interact with staff, physicians, managers and other organizational executives.

Required Licenses: Registered Nurse License-NYS

Long Island Community Hospital provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $120,406.99 - $202,704.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
