Bedford-Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation, founded in 1967, is the nation s first community development corporation nestled in the heart of Central Brooklyn in Bed-Stuy. Located at Restoration Plaza, a 300,000 square foot commercial complex that offers a mix of retail, dining, recreation and entertainment, this historic organization is steeped in its mission to close the racial wealth gap. We provide direct services across an economic mobility platform centered on workforce development, affordable housing/homeownership, community revitalization, small business development and arts and culture to 60,000 people annually. About the Role: The Senior Director of Development will be part of the institutional advancement team, comprised of development and communications, and play a crucial role in advancing racial equity and social justice by executing strategies to grow revenue from corporate, foundation, and individuals, and increase donor engagement through special events, and marketing and communications initiatives. Reporting to the EVP, Chief Advancement Officer, you will facilitate the operations and growth of a comprehensive development/external affairs team. This is an exciting opportunity for an entrepreneurial, self-motivated and results-oriented individual committed to social justice with a drive to incite meaningful change as the organization embarks on an ambitious redevelopment project. Key Responsibilities:

  • Fundraising Strategy: develop and implement a full range of fundraising strategies for a portfolio of existing donors and prospects including annual giving, social media campaigns, corporate giving, employee engagement, foundation and government grants, special events, and other opportunities to raise money to support the organization s $14 million operating budget.
  • Donor Relations: cultivate and steward relationships with current and potential donors, including Board members and other major givers, both individual and institutional, to ensure their engagement with and long-term commitment to the organization's mission.
  • Team Leadership: as a senior leader, mentor a small team, providing guidance, input in performance evaluations, and professional development to achieve team and individual goals.
  • Collaboration: collaborate closely with the chief advancement officer, president and chief executive officer, board members, and other key stakeholders to ensure alignment of fundraising efforts with the overall organizational strategy.
  • Work alongside the director of marketing and communications and programs on compelling fundraising collateral to include case statements and impact reports for diverse donor segments.
  • Grants Management/Budget oversight: oversee the identification, application, and reporting process for grants, working closely with the finance team to ensure accurate projections and forecasts of financials.
  • Event Planning: assist in the conceptualization and execution of fundraising events, annual gala, and campaigns that enhance donor engagement and contribute to the organization's financial growth.
  • Perform other assigned job-related duties to help fulfill our Mission and drive our Vision.
What you bring to the role:
  • 7+ years experience working with senior leaders within a nonprofit or for-profit CSR team.
  • Expertise in best-practices for fundraising, including expectations for cultivating prospects, donor visits, and solicitations.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with internal and external stakeholders; effective at communicating the organization s mission, vision and impact through presentations, grant reports and other mediums.
  • Participatory approach to work especially with cross functional teams.
  • Ability to work simultaneously on individual and team goals and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Google suite and fundraising software for CRM purposes.
  • Analytical approach to fundraising.
