Job Description
The Senior Director of Operations will report to the Vice President of Operations. The incumbent will plan, direct, coordinate, and help oversee operations activities for the shipyard. The incumbent will ensure efficient operations using metrics, visual tools and applying lean manufacturing principles to meet current and future needs of General Dynamics Bath Iron Works and our customers. As the Senior Director of Operations, the incumbent will be responsible for the Safety, Quality, Cost, Schedule and our People within the Operations Team. This is a critical succession role to accelerate our readiness for future leadership in the Shipyard.

* Executes budgets and schedules in support of the overall BIW business plan.
* Implements projects and programs to meet or beat organizational goals.
* Engaged with multi-functional teams in problem solving efforts to reduce variation, improve customer satisfaction, and improve financial return.
* Responsible for the safety and well-being of a large group of salaried and represented employees.
* Other duties as assigned.
This position is onsite.
Required/Preferred Education/Training
* Bachelor's degree in engineering or operations required; marine engineering, MBA and advanced degrees preferred.
Required/Preferred Experience
* Minimum of 15 years of progressively responsible management and leadership experience, including proven ability to manage effectively a large number of employees in a heavy industry manufacturing environment required. Shipyard experience preferred.
* Demonstrated track record of reducing manufacturing cycle time and man-hour reduction.
* Must have a strong business sense and understanding of financial metrics and goals as related to business objectives.
* Successful demonstrated experience implementing Lean principles and behaviors in a manufacturing environment - especially the use of visual tools like dashboards, visual boards, KPI charts and problem solving.
* Excellent organizational and communication skills, both written and oral.
* Ability to lead a multi-disciplined that can reach across trades or divisions to solve problems, find business solutions and get results.
* Proven ability to foster a constructive and motivating work environment based on teaming.
* Positive relationship and reputation with U.S. Navy customer.
* Working knowledge of government contracting practices.
