By emphasizing cutting-edge and transformational research along with a commitment to the success of all students, UIC embodies the dynamic, vibrant and engaged urban university.Position SummaryThe Senior Director of Prospect Development and Analytics (SD) is critical in achieving UIC's philanthropic and engagement goals by designing, implementing, and leading a comprehensive prospect development program that includes portfolio management, prospect research, and data analytics. The SD leads a team of professionals focused on identifying, researching, and managing prospects and donors for UIC's advancement efforts, leveraging data to optimize portfolios and build a robust and sustainable donor pipeline. This role reports to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Advancement Operations, Talent & Culture (AVC). It works closely with executive and senior leadership across the organization, including the Vice Chancellor for Advancement (VC), Associate/Assistant Vice Chancellors for Advancement (AVCs), and senior/executive directors of development.Duties & Responsibilities
- Leads prospect identification, analysis, research, prospect management, and data efforts to ensure strategic support of UIC's fundraising priorities, goals, and campaigns.
- Develops and executes long- and short-term departmental goals and strategies to ensure portfolio movement and pipeline development aligned with broader University Advancement objectives and fundraising strategies.
- Serves as the primary resource for prospect and portfolio management and pipeline development by maintaining an overall knowledge of the university's top prospects and creating a clear roadmap for who, how, and why.
- Leverages industry knowledge to lead collaborative and strategic conversations with executive leadership in establishing, monitoring, and improving UIC's approach to prospect development and portfolio management.
- Develops and socializes policies and procedures that ensure the proper operation of the prospect pipeline, portfolio optimization, and tracking.
- Establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with departments and teams across UIF, UIC, and the UI system to represent and advocate for UIC OVCA's best interests with our campus and system partners in long-term organizational projects and discussions such as campaigns and system changes/upgrades.
- Establishes and maintains productive and collaborative relationships with internal OVCA teams such as alumni relations, stewardship & donor relations, and annual giving to provide potential data services and opportunities to conduct analytical analysis to improve direct and indirect fundraising initiatives.
- In collaboration with the Data Analytics Manager, builds and maintains dashboards, spreadsheets, and other information systems to track fundraising metrics, support fundraiser success, and ensure UIC Advancement can provide real-time pipeline and portfolio information to various audiences, including University leadership.
- Through a shared reporting line with the University of Illinois Foundation's (UIF) Director of Prospect Management and Research and the Prospect Research Manager for UIC, oversees workflow and resource deployment of prospect development specialists assigned to UIC.
- Serves as liaison to UIF departments, committees, and working groups related to prospect management, portfolio management, research, data integrity, and reporting capabilities.
- Hires, trains, develops and manages staff to ensure that qualified staff exists to meet group objectives.
- Manages and assists the portfolio management team in executing portfolio management duties, including prospecting, portfolio reviews, staff training, and database maintenance.
- Oversees process by which prospects are referred to gift officers and ensures timely and appropriate follow-up is happening.
- Assists the Associate Vice Chancellor for Advancement, Health Affairs with developing and implementing a successful grateful patient prospecting process and pipeline.
- Maintains an interest and involvement with professional development associations such as CASE, APRA, AASP, and AFP to ensure that the latest trends, methodologies, and best practices are considered and available for implementation at UIC.
- Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent
- Eight years of relevant experience required
- Knowledge and understanding of fundraising prospect management principles and methods
- Experience with fundraising databases and software
- Experience in managing/supervising a team
- Strong strategic thinking, project management, and training skills
- Ability to set priorities and exercise critical thinking skills to determine the best use of resources for reaching goals to support the university's mission

- Experience in a complex fundraising environment
- Personal initiative, entrepreneurial spirit, flexibility, and strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to combine the art of fundraising with the science of data and processes
