The Position

The Opportunity:

The Senior Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) Business Partner is responsible for designing, developing, and ensuring the execution of the D&I strategy for the business units they support. This role will report to the Head of D&I Business Partnering in the Genentech Chief Diversity Office and will be a thought partner with key business and D&I stakeholders to drive progress on Genentech's overall D&I enterprise strategy and implementation of our three Pillars: Foster Belonging, Advance Inclusive Research and Health Equity, and Transform Society.

This key leadership role will guide and consult with leaders and D&I partners around D&I needs, opportunities, and goals by:

  • Co-creating, guiding, advising, and implementing an integrated D&I strategy to deliver on D&I goals and alignment to the enterprise-wide D&I strategy.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders and the broader organization to integrate diversity and inclusion within business practices, aiming to attract, engage, develop, and retain top talent while fostering an environment where all individuals can thrive.
  • Identifying and addressing diversity and inclusion (D&I) needs through data analysis while building strong relationships and collaborating with business units to implement initiatives that create an optimal work environment for everyone.
  • Collaborating with global and enterprise-wide D&I stakeholders to embed enterprise-wide program initiatives to meet needs.
  • Acting as program management lead on all CDO D&I initiatives in collaboration with stakeholders to ensure the prompt execution of initiatives, including business unit D&I team activities such as enlisting, onboarding, and motivating members, developing meeting materials and year-long programs, and delegating assignments that drive the advancement of strategic initiatives for our people, patients, and society.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Provide guidance and advice to stakeholders on increasing diversity awareness and establishing initiatives to ensure the inclusion of underrepresented candidates in hiring, promotion, and growth opportunities. Analyze and present diversity metrics, engage senior-level champions, and support the prompt execution of D&I initiatives.
  • Act as primary lead for D&I initiatives to strengthen inclusive leadership and build/sustain a culture of inclusion; tactics to achieve this may involve partnering with business leaders/teams to develop custom programs, providing appropriate data to define the opportunity and show progress, etc.
  • Ensure business alignment with global and enterprise-wide D&I practices, metrics, programs and flex with the evolving and shifting structure of the business.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on current D&I knowledge and drive, increased awareness of D&I concepts in the business by leveraging the CDO Learning Journey, and bringing increased awareness and visibility to diverse communities and programs via the D&I Universe.
  • Collaborate across the CDO leveraging existing programs and initiatives to drive D&I accountability and adoption throughout the organization.
  • Partner with People and Culture (P&C) colleagues to optimize people practices that strengthen diversity and/or a feeling of inclusion/belonging; these practices include check-ins, succession planning, professional development, workforce planning, recruitment, and retention planning.
  • Partner with P&C recruiters to review employment activities such as applicant flow, new hires, terminations, transfers, and promotions to identify potential focus areas and other opportunities to promote diversity awareness and initiatives.
  • Partner with cross-functional partners (e.g., Legal, P&C Business partner, EEO/Compliance Manager) to ensure compliance of programs and understand and shape initiatives in support of Affirmative Action Plans and Equal Employment Opportunity plans.
  • Integrate work across the three D&I strategic pillars to ensure maximum impact of initiatives to achieve goals.
  • Implement measurable D&I projects, strategies, and initiatives to achieve goals and objectives that further business strategies and goals.

Who you are:

  • You have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in biotechnology/pharmaceutical management, organizational development, and/or HR-related field.
  • You have 8 to 12 years of relevant experience.
  • Proven ability to diagnose issues/needs and develop appropriate strategies and actions to address the needs.
  • Strong presentation, interpersonal communication, written communication, and facilitation skills to be used with senior-level leadership and functional leadership teams, town halls, external events, and director-level meetings.
  • Program and project management skills to lead and/or manage work across the D&I team/community, across the enterprise, or with key business stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated teamwork skills and a collaborative approach to work with D&I and People & Culture colleagues interdependently to develop results for the business.
  • Proven ability to coach and provide feedback to leaders and key stakeholders to help them become more inclusive leaders.
  • An excellent command of contemporary diversity, equity, inclusion, and multiculturalism concepts and issues.
  • The ability to research, identify, and implement best practices of diversity and inclusion.
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills; proven ability to influence without direct authority.
  • Business travel by air and car is required for regular internal and external business meetings, conferences and/or events.

Works effectively with other people over whom he or she has no direct authority and is frequently more senior.

The expected salary range for this position is based on the primary location of California is $129,200-$239,900. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
