EchoStar has an exciting opportunity for a Sr Avionics Engineer in our Hughes Network Systems division. Hughes is a leading provider of satellite products and services that recently announced disruptive in-flight entertainment and connectivity solutions for airlines.
This position will design and develop the electrical systems and avionics for the connectivity system and will work closely with Certification, PMO, Supply Chain and outside vendors to ensure they are installable on commercial aircraft. Responsibilities:
- Electrical System Design: Evaluate and design electrical, avionics, connectors and related systems for Hughes' broadband internet connectivity product, ensuring those designs meet performance, safety, and regulatory requirements. This will include creation of electrical specifications, system interconnect diagrams, wiring diagrams, wire routing, connector design, LRU electrical requirements and related areas.
- Component Selection: Select and help source electrical components and materials, considering factors such as reliability, durability, and compatibility with aviation standards.
- System Integration: Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate electrical systems into the overall aircraft design.
- Testing and Validation: Develop test plans and procedures, oversee testing activities, and analyze test results to verify the performance and safety of electrical systems.
- Regulatory Compliance: Stay up to date with aviation regulations and certification requirements, and ensure that all electrical systems meet relevant standards and guidelines.
- Risk Assessment: Identify and mitigate potential risks associated with electrical systems, and develop contingency plans to address unexpected issues.
- Technical Leadership: As the team grows, lead and mentor junior electrical engineers, providing guidance and expertise in electrical engineering principles and aviation-specific knowledge.
Basic Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree Electrical Engineering, Aviation, Computer Engineering or a related technical field.
- 7-10 years of experience in electrical engineering with a focus on aviation or aerospace.
- Strong knowledge of aviation regulations and standards (e.g. FAA, EASA) and experience with aircraft design methodologies. Familiarity with industry-specific tools and technologies (DO-254, DO-160).
- A strong working knowledge of the STC process.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree Electrical Engineering, Aviation, Computer Engineering or a related technical field.
- Proficiency in CAD software for electrical design and simulation.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration within multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of projects
